Sven Duchamp - expert på auraproduktion : Om entreprenörskap, visioner, konst och företag

• This study aims at investigating in what way the concept auraproduction offers an opportunity to locate a business-context into which entrepreneurs and artistry are merged. It also shows how the concept of auraproduction more specifically could be used to interpret ongoing production-processes that take place outside the company's control.The investigation concerns especially one Swedish furniture company; Källemo AB and its founder Sven Lundh. The method used is interpretative, qualitative and inspired by anthropology.The study strives further to describe a company from a culture- and art-theoretical perspective. The effort is intended to develope a theoretical treatment of how business works from both a cultural and artistic perspective. The aim is to contribute to a general cultural theoretical understanding of a company. Secondly the study compares both the production and the marketing of artistic artifacts and utility goods. As many researchers have already called attention to, it seems more difficult nowadays, to separate what is art and what is not art. But apparently empirical analyses that try to investigate the interaction between different disciplines and particularly those between business and art are rare.Thirdly, the study investigates, from a management point of view, how values and ideas used in the Arts can be used in management. The owner of this particular company is very much interested in art and artistic ideas and he collaborates with both artists and designers. The study will also look into both similarities and differences between such an entrepreneur as Sven Lundh and an artist as Marcel Duchamp.In order to illuminate how Auraproduction occurs, production is interpreted as continuous phases; beginning with the idea, through the production on to the marketplace and finally to the customer. This is done mainly because I want to give a wider picture of how a production of meaning is taking place and how an added value is created around a company and their products and services.My ambition is to show, that the concept of Auraproduction thoroughly illuminates production-processes within a company and that it is a useful tool in order to understand how value-adding processes take place and that they, in different ways, affect the company activities that are very important today.The study shows that: -The boundary line between business and art is not clear and distinct but instead complex and blurred. - Art-worlds and business-worlds are similar and both are concerned with the production of aura. - Business entrepreneurs and artist entrepreneurs have much more in common than earlier research has brought up. -Value-adding is taking place in the media, museums and private homes and is not only connected to the material aspects or the production-process in the factory. Cultural conceptions, the authoritarian power of institutions and personalities are conditions that influence the value-adding process.
