Där föremål och dokument möts : Läsning, analys och tolkning av tidigmoderna källor

• This text discusses the use of extant objects and written documents as sources of information. It focuses on three questions: How does the information in objects differ from that given by written sources? What kind of knowledge may be gained by letting the information in objects and documentary sources interact? And is it possible to move from a micro-historical to a cultural perspective by combining objects and written sources? These questions are illustrated by examples from the Wardrobe of Robes at the Swedish Royal Court during the first half of the 17th century. From this organization there are extant garments and written documents, covering the same space in time, which can be combined in various ways. Through these sources, and the surrounding context given by the western European cultural framework, it is possible to exemplify how different forms of interaction between textile objects and written documents may give various kinds of information and how this information can be made available.
