Introduction : Communication as the intersection of the old and the new

• This introductory chapter gives an introduction to the contributions that are part of the edited volume and to its overall theme. It discribes the four sections of the book and highlights the basic principles of the European Media and Communication Doctoral Summer School. It also gives a brief overview of this specific Summer School, which ran from 8 to 17 July 2019, at the University of Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy.
