- The present volume consists of six essays that illustrate the wide thematic and chronological scope of Nordic name research. Jan-Åke Alvarsson explains how proper names can reflect changes within the Pentecostal movement in Sweden. Bent Jørgensen sheds light on various trends in Danish onomastic research and presents a fundamentally interesting study of the village name Bleld. Maria Löfdahl deals with names of younger settlements in Sotenäs härad, Bohuslän; a central theme in her research is naming on the pattern of other names. Svante Strandberg's two contributions focus on the interpretation of the river name Lafsån in Västergötland and the farm name Njälva in Södermanland. In Inge Særheim’s essay, we face place names with a tragic historical background: the abandonment of unwanted infants.
