The Sound Toll Chamber Commodity Records: estimating the reliability of a potential source to international trade history

• The aim of this essay is to study a primary source material that so far has been used to an extremely limited degree previously: the Sound Toll Chamber Commodity Records (available for the period 1773-1856). The aim is to try to analyse how valuable and trustworthy this source might be for scholars interested in the history of the Baltic. A second aim is also to show that this source material can be particularly valuable in relieving a problem associated with the raw data of the Sound Toll Accounts.
