• Curating Artist-Organisation: The potential of inter- and intra-organisational practices as exhibition-making. In recognising that the ‘autonomous’ impulses of ‘artist-led’ activities are an important, but nevertheless a particularised subspecies, I then open out to a non-chronological heterogeneity via an expanded genealogy that interweaves the historic and contemporary beyond the dominant narrative of the moment of 'alternative space' as coterminous with artists-organisation. Key is an understanding that withdrawal is not sui generis to such an expanded scope of artist-organisation. To endure it, as such, would be sustaining a constricted understanding of artists-initiation and organisation. Rather, I propose a heterogeneous logic that forefronts the capacities of artist-organisation to be understood as productive of relations, inter-dependencies and intra-existence, In doing so, I argue for thinking of an exhibition as means by which to foster and mobilise the notion of ‘organisation’ as interstitial and a context in which to gather and dynamise relations between artist-organisation, art institutions and multiple constituents in terms of the broader question of sustainability as an interrogation of how to live together. Thereby, the macro question of institutional re-purposing is understood to necessitate care at the micro-level of organisation. In this manner, I propose we can begin to now usefully think through artist-organisation via two particular formations of organisation: inter-organisation and infra-organisation, and its implications for quasi-curatorial methods.
