- The task of writing a critical and well-informed introduction to the study of Islam that includes the rise of a religious tradition, its texts, the development of the society, its institutions and intellectual traditions and contemporary history/ies is, of course, a version of mission impossible. The aim of the following article is to discuss Aaron W. Hughes’ Muslim Identities: An Introduction to Islam and to analyse the implications of Hughes approach to the study of Islam and religions.
