- Local Realities: Contemporary Social Development Issues in Uganda is a result of a study carried out by the School of Social Sciences at Makerere University under the project: 'Strengthening Social Science Research for National Development' project. In the context of Uganda's national development strategy, the authors focus on vulnerability and social protection, livelihoods, healthcare responses and governance and development. The book investigates how social development approaches have been carried out by government in contemporary Uganda. It discusses the dynamics that affect choice of policy and programmes, examines the role of politics and the ways of programmers implementation, assesses the impact of interventions on social well being, analyses pouchy implications and draws conclusions to guide social policies and programmes on Uganda's policy frameworks and in other developing countries which experience similar challenges. The book will benefit policy makers and all those engaged in program implementation.
