  • 22nd of October Always look on the bright side of life - Dark time, we are still not safe Curated by Benedikte Esperi Darkness allows me to exist and be visible at the same time, it blurs prejudice. Darkness allows me to play with invisibility and the presence of sensuality. Darkness is my source of stripped-down listening about what really surrounds me. Darkness is lightness that illuminates what I want to see. An evening where three female artists perform in the dark. The solos overlap in a seamlessly curated evening, creating a universe where the audience lies on carpets during the evening. The artists perform in the dark. The live-form of art that involves human interactivity finding its way back to culture life with the new normal and accept the new reality that we still not safe. Communication Laboratory/COMLAB continues to promote and sustain the culture live in the field of performance art in the City of Gothenburg alongside Gothenburg’s Culture Night for the Gothenburgers. This year with intention to collaborate with Benedikte Esperi AB in a diverse program to bridge artists from different parts of practice together, to create a synergetic and lively atmosphere of artist network and collaboration towards the bright time. ‘Always look on the bright side of life’ is to encourage all of us to be positive and hold on that we are almost there and to be fearless at the end of the pandemic. The event consists of two evenings program, ‘Dark time, we are still not safe’ on the 22 October and ‘Bright time, we are almost there’ on the 28 October in the evening of GBGs Kulturnatta, which is to bring up positive energy and look forward upfront. Followed by feedbacks from the program of Intervall and Cross Section 2021 and other live form events, which have shown the positive emotion of crave and thirst in live-form art from the public. The interest and burning sensation to have a vivid culture life is import though we are not entirely free from COVID. To encourage the synergy, COMLAB is to facilitate and to co-curate the program with Benedikte Esperi AB to promote crossing collaboration, emphasise on artist network with a diverse program that includes text, sound, voices, body, solo and collective performances, eventually to let the flowers blooms. The program of this evening features of artists as below: Elin Wikström Elin Wikström’s works are participant-driven, take place in dialogue with different contexts and question norms, values and logics for how we speak, think and act. The purpose of her artistic practice is to reflect on current social, political and cultural issues. Several of the works have been large-scale projects, such as Wikström’s contribution to the exhibition “Emscherkunst 2013” in Germany where approximately 700 people were active co-creators in the execution of the work over a three-year period. In terms of art theory, these methods belong to the fields of conceptual art, the 1990s and 2000s development within process-based art. Joakim Stampe Joakim Stampe has become know internationally within performance and street art and is regularly invited to festivals and art evens all over the world from Asia to Europe, from Europe to America. In his work he fusion the ephemeral with the art object, painting with performance and matter like water, fire, even air and stone. Inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s theories on the poetry of matter, Stampe creates work that constantly surprises in their fantasy and artistic expression. He has furthermore developed a concept on the action of giving as art, the notion of giving away art objects for free is quite controversial in a society dominated by hysterical consumption, in which event the idea of artistic creation and its value has been reduced to that of simple wage labour. Chuyia Chia Chuyia explores between painting, installation art, digital representation and performance art. Her works focuses on global issues especially concerning in living environment, food, identity and culture. She expressed meaning through action, looking at perspectives on how body language and action performs in
