Coordinating Goodwill for Crisis Response

• This paper presents the process behind the design of an onlineplatform named whatdoweneed.se, to be used by organizationsinvolved in crisis response to communicate their needs tothe public. In times of heightened crisis awareness, due toattention from the media and social media, the public oftenresponds with overwhelming goodwill in the form of offers ofhelp and donated goods. This design is an attempt to directthat goodwill in such a way as to avoid inappropriate or surplusdonations. The design process followed a Human CenteredDesign (HCD) approach and the outcome of the project is aconcept design in the shape of several wireframes and plansfor future work. The design was inspired and influenced bythe unfolding refugee crisis in Europe in 2015.
