  • Life Cycle Assessment: Concrete Hollow Core Slab
  • 2013
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A report about the environmental impacts involved in the use of recycled concrete waste as aggregates in new concrete. The environmental impacts were assessed based on a simple LCA using a prefabricated concrete producing company in Sweden as a case study. The results of the LCA revealed that major environmental impacts arised from the crushing and extraction processes as these were diesel fuel intensive. Comparatively, the use of recycled concrete as aggregates in new concrete saw a reduction in the environmental impacts as the need for extraction had reduced with the introduction of recycled aggregates.

  • Form from flat
  • 2021
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The project Form from flat explored the creation of three-dimensional woven textiles through the interaction of material and structure. These textile-forms aim to challenge the process of forming textile objects and spaces, suggesting an alternative to textiles as passive materials for design. Their three-dimensional form is a result of the interaction of contrasting yarn properties, weave structures, and finishing processes. The contrast of shrinking and stiff yarns generates tension in the textile, creating distortions and separating layers. Each textile has a specific behavior,  generating its unique form and texture through a process of emergence. This process creates dynamic textiles, which change and evolve from two-dimensional loom woven fabrics to three-dimensional textile-forms; a complex textile system emerging over time. These images take advantage of the digital exhibition format to draw attention to details of form and texture in a selection of the experimental textiles produced during the project. These details both reveal and conceal different elements of these textiles’ design and construction, demonstrating an intricacy of texture and form at a scale that is often overlooked.

  • All-Cellulose Composites Properties from Pre- and Post-Consumer Denim Wastes: Comparative Study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Composites Science. - : MDPI AG. - 2504-477X. ; 6:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This study reports the recycling of discarded denim textiles by the production of all-cellulose composites (ACCs). Discarded denim fabrics were shredded into fibers and then made into nonwoven fabrics by carding and needle punching. The produced nonwoven fabrics were converted to ACCs by one-step and two-step methods using an ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium acetate ([BMIM][Ac]). In this study, the effect of different ACC manufacturing methods, denim fabrics with different contents (a 100% cotton denim (CO) and a blend material (cotton, poly-ester and elastane (BCO)) and reusing of IL as a recycled cellulose solvent on the mechanical pro-perties of the formed ACCs were investigated. The ACCs were characterized according to their tensile and impact properties, as well as their void content. Microscopic analysis was carried out to study the morphology of a cross-section of the formed composites. The choice of the one-step method with recycled IL, pure IL or with a blend material (BCO) had no influence on the tensile properties. Instead, the result showed that the two-step method, with and without DMSO, will influence the E-modulus but not the tensile strength. Regarding the impact properties of the samples, the only factor likely to influence the impact energy was the one-step method with CO and BCO.

  • Circular used clothing valorization: Executive Brief
  • 2023
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This Executive Brief compiles the key results obtained from some ongoing research and innovation studies conducted with the scope of two ongoing projects: (i) CLOSeD (Circular clothing dichotomies in global-local supply chain dispersion) funded by Ikea Family Research Foundation; ongoing since January 2021, and (ii) Circular Logistics (Exploring the role of logistics in the circular textile ecosystem) funded by Formas (Swedish research council for sustainable development); ongoing since May 2022. [More about the 2 projects here: CLOSeD↗  Circular Logistics↗]This Executive Brief is one-of-its-kind, given that it synthesizes the results of multiple ongoing studies, and draws connection among them by presenting an overarching purpose of creating science-based logical reasoning and understanding of how circular clothing supply chains and ecosystems, and the organizations embedded within, can maximise their valorisation potential amid the changing landscape led by, for example, the European Union (EU)-wide planning and adoption of “EU Strategy for textiles”. A common thread of our argument, as put forward in this Executive Brief is while the textile circular economy is largely influenced in practice by recent technological advancements, related to circular material development, innovative products and processes, or digitalization of circular business models and operations, the motivation in driving them forward has been largely from an efficiency-gain perspective, both in terms of economics and ecology, that is address whether and how circular economy would minimise costs, enhance profitability, and render economies of scale. A novelty-centred perspective has been largely implicit in this regard; however critical to generate a top-line on how circular supply chains and ecosystems should generate sustainable value, beyond cost/profit dimensions. To address this our Executive Brief presents the 5 distinct studies’ results. Each study is enriched by empirically-driven dataset, analytical framing and scientific methodology, while at the same time are aligned by a common objective: to explore and provide explanation of the main challenges to value generation in circular clothing supply chains and ecosystems, and what concrete strategic solutions are/can be devised.  Ø  STUDY 1 explores the values currently uncaptured, new opportunities and strategies to capture them, from a multi-dimensional and multi-stakeholder perspective, in context to European used clothing circular supply chain from multiple countries.Ø  STUDY 2 checks the triple-bottom line sustainability credential of distributed Global North-South used clothing circular supply chain, by weighing the pros and cons against each other and finally proposing what needs further attention for future valorization.Ø  STUDY 3 highlights the underlying supply chain capabilities prerequisite to design textile-to-textile recycling value chain for handling post-consumer waste in Global North.Ø  STUDY 4 presents the case of a multi-national Swedish fashion retailer to pen down what capabilities are essential of an ecosystem leader or captain in orchestrating circular supply chains of post-consumer used clothes.Ø  STUDY 5 initiates a mapping of multi-tiered textile recycling value chain in Global South by presenting the case of Panipat in India - world’s largest mechanical recycling hub.

  • Source Separation of Household Waste : Technology and Social Aspects
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Resource Recovery to Approach Zero Municipal Waste. - Boca Raton : CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group. - 9781482240351 - 9781482240368 ; , s. 61-76
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Ch 4. Separate collection, i.e. source separation, of recyclable materials is crucial for sustainable management of household waste. Functioning and efficient source separation schemes require consideration of the local circumstances and understanding of the influential of behavioural factors pertaining to householders. There are a number of different approaches and technical systems used for source separation. This chapter discusses the role of citizens and presents examples of comprehensive source separation systems. Some recommendations for establishing, monitoring and evaluating separate collection systems concludes the chapter.

  • Measuring method for deciding direction to a flickering source
  • 2003
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Method and arrangement for deciding the direction to a flickering source in relation to a measurement point in an electrical network with alternating current with a network frequency with low-frequency amplitude variations from the flickering source. The method includes the steps: recording an amplitude-modulated current signal having signals that originate from the network frequency and the low-frequency amplitude variations in the current signal; recording an amplitude-modulated voltage signal having signals that originate from the network frequency and the low-frequency amplitude variations in the voltage signal; creating a flicker power with a sign value by multiplication of the low-frequency amplitude variations in the current signal and the low-frequency amplitude variations in the voltage signal, and analyzing the sign value, with the sign value indicating in which direction the flickering source is to be found in relation to the measurement point.
