- On 19 July 2009 Ingvar Kärnefelt celebrated his 65th birthday. This could have meant that we, his former students, would be celebrating him in his retirement from his position as head of the Biological Museums at Lund University. We are grateful that this is not the case, as Ingvar will carry on, probably for at least one or two more years. Instead, we celebrate Ingvar because he is the main reason for all of us having studied lichenology in Lund. This special issue of The Lichenologist is dedicated to him as a birthday tribute in honour of his long and fruitful lichenological career. The main authors of all the papers in this issue are former students of Ingvar. For several of us he has not only acted as supervisor but later also as the director of the Botanical Museum where we meet him in our daily work.

- Sverige är ett få länder i världen som reglerar forskningsetik i lag. Men vad händer när en enhetlig lagstiftning inte har hänsyn till olika forskningsdiscipliners särart, och forskningsetiken formaliseras i ämnesövergripande förordningar? Den formella process som etikprövning av forskning har utvecklats till kan innebära en utmaning för möjligheten att bedriva sociologisk forskning, både vad gäller anpassning till en byråkratisk diskurs och i kontakten med respondenter.Det här samtalet baseras på ett seminariesamtal som organiserades av sociologiämnet på Södertörns högskola den 17 november 2021, där Jonas Edlund, professor i sociologi vid Umeå universitet, Sara Eldén docent och lektor i sociologi vid Lunds universitet och David Wästerfors, professor i sociologi vid Lunds universitet deltog. En av tidskriftens redaktörer, Lena Sohl, var moderator.

- This article examines what kind of Russia is being projected in official rhetoric about the Sochi Olympics, arguing that the imagined community of Sochi-2014 is a diverse, inclusive and tolerant nation, even an international example of ethnic conviviality. The article puts this narrative in historical perspective, relating it to the mnogonatsionalnost policies of tsarist, Soviet and post-Soviet Russia. It is argued that this imagination, though explicitly very inclusive, rests on important exclusions and silences. By selective exhibitions of minority-groups the other is domesticated, stereotyped and reduced to kitsch and folklore, glossing over conflict-ridden histories and prevailing inequalities.

- During the past decade, the states situated on the territory of the former Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe have made newspaper headlines around the world for topics on gender and sexuality: it seems that each step towards gender equality and inclusive sexual citizenship in the region has been accompanied by counter-actions on different scales. In what way is the present day of appropriate legislation and recent backlash connected to the legacies of regulations of gender relationships, intimacies, and sexualities under state socialism? What role do economic, political, and educational changes that took place in the region in the 1990s play in these developments? And finally, can we speak about certain similarities between discourses on sexuality and intimacy in the “West,” on the one hand, and in post-Soviet and East European countries, on the other? Reflecting on current changes in post-socialist societies, the authors of this special issue give their own answers to these questions.
