- These papers were originally presented at the XVIIIe conference on Romance language research in Scandinavia that took place at the University of Gothenburg August 9–12, 2011, bringing together researchers from Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Baltic, and Swedish universities. The subjects approached cover a broad range of areas within linguistics, translation studies, literary studies and didactics. The following specialists were invited as key-note speakers: Manuel Alberca, Philippe Gasparini, Zlatka Guentchéva, and Martin Maiden.

- The title of this volume [in English: ”The Ambiguous Pact. Literary Texts in the Border-zone between Autobiography and Fiction”], refers to a debate that has taken place in recent years among literary scholars: is it possible to draw a sharp line between fictional and autobiographical texts? Philippe Lejeune (Le Pacte autobiographique, 1975) suggested that this could be done by establishing what type of pact the author implicitly concludes with the reader. His theories are widely spread but also contested and recent research has focussed on the large field of generically hybrid, indeterminate texts that are neither traditional autobiographies nor entirely fictional. Some specialists have proposed to call such texts autofictions, a term spurned by others. The introductory chapter of this book summarizes the contributions made to this debate since the seventies (mainly in France) and tries to pinpoint the main reasons for disagreement and the questions left without satisfactory answers. Then follow eighteen case studies devoted to particular authors representing a wide range of cultural spheres. The authors discussed are the contemporary French writers Serge Doubrovsky, Marguerite Duras, Michel Houellebecq, and Éric Chevillard, Antoine Volodine (a contemporary Russian-born writer who publishes his books in French), Baudoin (a French artist who has produced several autobiographical comic strips), Fred Vargas, (a well-known French writer of detective novels), Romanian writer Mircea Cartarescu, French-speaking Belgian writer Jean Muno, French-Algerian writer Assia Djebar, Hélisenne de Crenne (a French writer from the sixteenth century), Spanish author Juan Goytisolo, three writers from Uruguay who have spent part of their lives in exile in Sweden (Carlos Liscano, Fernando Butazzoni, and Ana Luisa Valdés), Argentinean novelist Laura Alcoba, the poet John Hewitt from Northern Ireland, the contemporary German novelist Reinhard Lettau, the famous Japanese writer Yukio Mishima, Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, Lebanese writer Rashīd al-Da‛īf, and South-African Nobel laureate J.M. Coetzee. Each study is written by a different specialist. A complete list of the contributors and the universities they represent is presented as an appendix at the end of the volume.

- These papers were originally presented at the international conference “Marguerite Duras and Contemporary Thought” that took place at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) on May 10–12, 2007. The inaugural lecture entitled “Marx, c’est fini!”, given by Madeleine Borgomano, offers a panoramic view of the subject. Borgomano describes Duras’s commitment to the French Communist Party (1944–1950) as complete but temporary. It ended in a cruel disappointment, after which the writer came to embrace a philosophy of refusal reminiscent of Marcuse’s position. Borgomano also comments on the fascination Duras’s work has had on great many contemporary psychoanalysts, and she concludes her study by emphasizing the fundamentally deconstructive nature of Duras’s thought. The presentations that follow are divided into the following sections : Duras and the Masters of Postmodern Thought (papers on Duras and Maurice Blanchot, Roland Barthes, Jacques Derrida, Emmanuel Levinas, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, René Girard, Giorgio Agamben, Georges Bataille, and Theodor W. Adorno); Duras and Psychoanalysis (papers on Jacques Lacan and Julia Kristeva); Duras and Feminism (papers analysing Duras’s attitude towards feminism, as well as the feminist reception of Duras’s work); Duras and Communism (a paper on Duras and Elio Vittorini): Duras: Cognition, Virtuality, Language; and finally a section on various aspects of Duras’s relationship to postmodern thought, including papers on Duras and Eastern Thought, Duras and Music, and Duras and Cinema (papers on the film projects of Eric Vigner and Olivier Bardin, on Le Camion, and on the relationship between Duras and Guy Debord).

Theorising Textuality. Theorising Reading. Om vetenskaplig teoribildning inom kultur- och litteraturforskning

- Den 14 januari 2011 genomfördes en intern workshop vid Institutionen för språk och litteraturer vid Göteborgs universitet på temat ”Theorising textuality. Theorising reading. Om vetenskaplig teoribildning inom kultur- och litteraturforskning”. Workshopen vände sig i första hand till lärare och forskare knutna till det institutionsgemensamma forskarseminariet för litteratur- och kulturstudier. Sju av bidragen publiceras här, fyra på svenska och tre på engelska. Boken inleds med Hans Löfgrens studie “Squaring the Circle. A Semiotics of Narrative Grammar”, en förkortad version av en teoretisk modell för texttolkning. Pernilla Myrne framhåller i sin studie "Genre och genus. Att närma sig texter om kvinnor i den äldsta arabisk-muslimska litteraturen" att moderna tolkningsredskap (särskilt genre- och genusanalys) kan ge en ökad förståelse för hur dessa texter en gång avsågs att läsas av sin samtid, en förståelse som är en förutsättning för att undvika anakronistiska tolkningar. Martin Nordeborgs artikel är en förstudie till ett projekt vars syfte är att kartlägga mansbilden i japansk ungdomslitteratur, d.v.s. vilka mansideal som presenteras för japanska ungdomar och hur dessa förhåller sig till tidigare ideal. Eva Ahlstedt redogör för den franska litteraturvetaren Vincent Jouves teorier om den tredelade läsaren och illustrerar med en tillämpning av dessa teorier på två verk av Marguerite Duras. Johan Järlehed diskuterar i sin artikel hur ett utvidgat läsbegrepp kan tillämpas på studiet av ”språkliga landskap”, d.v.s. de skyltar som dyker upp i gatubilden. I sitt bidrag med titeln “Misreading Proust: Style, Rhetoric, Allegory” reflekterar Zlatan Filipovic, inspirerad av Paul de Man’s berömda Prouststudie, över omöjligheten att komma till en slutgiltig texttolkning när det gäller litterära verk. Margrét Gunnarsdóttir Champion undersöker hur vissa av Gilles Deleuze och Jacques Lacans teorier kan fördjupa förståelsen av Virginia Woolfs experimentella romankonst i To the Lighthouse (1927).
