  • Comparison of oral health assessments between nursing staff and patients on medical wards
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cancer Care. - Oxford : Blackwell Publishing. - 0961-5423 .- 1365-2354. ; 17:1, s. 49-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The maintenance of good oral health is essential for nutrition, recovery and well-being. This requires the involvement of the nursing staff, especially in cases where oral care and any necessary dental treatment are vital to ensure medical treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of oral assessments performed by nursing staff using the revised oral assessment guide (ROAG), using comparisons with patients' self-assessment of oral problems. When a comparison was made of how the staff and patients assessed their oral status, a high level of agreement was found. In these assessments, with the exception of oral mucosa and teeth, the percentage agreement was >80. The kappa coefficient revealed slight to moderate agreement. When there was a disagreement, the staff assessed the oral health as being significantly poorer than the patients did. In the present study, it was shown that few oral assessments performed by the nursing staff and patient disagreed. The ROAG may therefore be useful for the nursing staff to make the patients' oral health problems visible. © 2007 The Authors; Journal compilation © 2007 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.

  • Perceptions of Stress of Swedish Volunteer Youth Soccer Coaches
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sports. - Basel : MDPI. - 2075-4663. ; 8:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The work of a coach can be stressful, and little is known about how volunteer coaches in child and youth soccer perceive stress. Therefore, the overall aim of this study was to explore perceptions of stress among Swedish volunteer youth soccer coaches. Methods: An online questionnaire was distributed to 1514 soccer coaches of which 688 (78% men and 22% women; 4% < 30 years, 34% 31–40 years; 57% 41–50 years and 5% > 51 years) with non-profit positions responded. Results: Findings indicate that participants in general do not feel excessively stressed by being a volunteer youth soccer coach (M = 2.20; SD = 0.93; Min = 1; Max = 5), and no significant differences in perceived stress level were found based on gender, age, ethnicity, educational level or occupation. Multiple regression analysis showed that demands from employment (β = 0.24, p < 0.001), difficulty catching up with the family (β = 0.22, p < 0.001), not having enough time to plan activities (β = 0.13, p < 0.001), feeling pressured when selecting the team (β = 0.09, p = 0.013) and own demands to achieve good results (β = 0.07, p = 0.045), significantly contributed to perceptions of stress among the investigated youth sport coaches. Conclusions: The results shed light on the important aim that sport clubs develop holistic strategies when recruiting and retaining coaches and for other functions concerning child and youth soccer teams. © 2020 by the authors. • The multiple roles of demand in new regional industrial path development : A conceptual analysis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Environment and planning A. - London, UK : Sage Publications. - 0308-518X .- 1472-3409. ; 51:8, s. 1741-1757
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper contributes to the literature on new regional industrial path development by highlighting the multiple roles that demand can play in regional development. We develop a conceptual framework relating different roles of demand to different types of new path development. Based on the literature on regional development, we differentiate between the role of demand as anonymous consumer, sophisticated buyer, active co-developer, public procurer and norm and value setter. These roles influence different types of new path development, including path extension, path upgrading, path importation, path diversification and path creation. New path development can be triggered by changing norms and values in the society (e.g. environmental concerns and the growing demand for cleaner technologies), public procurement for innovation (governments demand new products or services and thereby steer economic development) or by users modifying existing products or developing novel solutions that are not yet on the market (e.g. user innovations). The various roles of demand, as well as its effect on new regional industrial path development, depend on the geographical context. We argue that taking a nuanced view towards demand will add a novel dimension to the debate on new path development in regions.

  • Psychological risk factors for exercise dependence
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology. - New York : Routledge. - 1612-197X .- 1557-251X. ; 19:4, s. 461-472
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main aim of this study was to investigate if exercisers' personality characteristics were associated with exercise dependence. Specifically, the purpose was to examine if anxiety, obsessive passion, and physical appearance orientation were associated to an increased risk for exercise dependence. Participants were 330 exercisers from exercise groups, sport clubs and university sport science classes in the southwest of Sweden. Data were analysed using CHAID (Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection) analysis. The CHAID analysis indicated that anxiety was the main predictor of exercise dependence. More specifically, 12.7% more exercisers who experienced high levels of anxiety symptoms (i.e. scores above 6), were, in comparison to the exercises experiencing low levels of anxiety, classified as ?at risk for exercise dependence?. For exercisers that reported low levels of anxiety symptoms (i.e. scores below 7), obsessive passion for exercise was a positive statistically significant predictor (absolute risk difference?=?8.6%). Overall, the results highlight anxiety as a main risk factor behind exercise dependence. Also, the risk of exercise dependence may increase either from obsessive passion or as a coping strategy for anxiety. Furthermore, results may illustrate two types of exercise dependence; ?primary? exercise dependence driven mainly by an obsessive passion for exercise and ?secondary? exercise dependence where exercise function as a strategy to cope with anxiety.

  • A comparison of two frameworks for the analysis of knowledge and skills for teaching statistics – MKT vs. RCM for PCK
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The relation between mathematics education research and teachers’ professional development. - Göteborg : Svensk förening för MatematikDidaktisk Forskning - SMDF. - 9789198402452 ; , s. 132-132
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This presentation is part of a Ph.D. project that aims to increase knowledgeabout how to support the development of teacher students’ pedagogical contentknowledge (PCK) for teaching statistical inference. Dealing with the existingdiversity of theoretical approaches is a well-known challenge for the researchcommunity. The focus of this short presentation is to compare two reputable frameworks: Mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT) and Refinedconsensus model (RCM) for pedagogical content knowledge. This comparisonwill highlight their contributions, merits, shortcomings, and possible connections to evaluate and guide an ongoing teaching and learning design in teachereducation for primary school.

  • Learning opportunities for pre-service teachers to develop pedagogical content knowledge for statistical inference
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Twelfth Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME12). - : European Society for Research in Mathematics Education. - 9791221025378 ; , s. 821-828
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, researchers have encouraged the teaching of statistical inference to students at all levels. However, what constitutes pre-service teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge for statistical inference has not yet been given specific attention in research. This paper presents a qualitative study of pre-service teachers participating in a collaborative learning setup in a mathematics course to be prepared for teaching statistics in primary school aged 6–10 years. The study reported here is the first cycle of a design research project. This first-phase study explores how pre-service teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge for statistical inference can be developed during their mathematics course. The findings show that pre-service teachers’ learning opportunities regarding pedagogical content knowledge for statistical inference are insufficient. Based on the initial results, an initial conjecture map was constructed that guides the forthcoming design cycle.

  • Welfare technology, ethics and well-being a qualitative study about the implementation of welfare technology within areas of social services in a Swedish municipality
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being. - Abingdon : Taylor & Francis. - 1748-2623 .- 1748-2631. ; 15:sup1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Digitalization and e-health have potential to generate good quality, equal health, well-being and to develop and strengthen individuals' resources with the goal of increased independence and participation in society. The implementation of welfare technology requires knowledge of digitalization, as well as an awareness of its meaning in terms of ethical principles and ethical analysis. The purpose of this study was to describe ethical analysis concerning the implementation of welfare technology, in terms of both strategies and tools, within areas of social services in a Swedish municipality.Method: We followed a working model that focused on increased knowledge and experience in the implementation of welfare technology from an ethical perspective. In the data collection were observations, a questionnaire with open-ended questions and focus group discussions used. Results: The analysis showed that when welfare technology was introduced and implemented within the area of social services in a municipality, ethical awareness resulting from the conflicts between various interests and values had to be addressed. Conclusions: The ethical analysis improved implementation of strategies and tools in terms of facts and values, and invisible underlying values to the concept of well-being.
