  • Uniqueness of open/closed rational CFT with given algebra of open states
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Adv. in Theor. and Math. Phys. 12 (2008). - : International Press. ; 12:6, s. 1283-1375
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the sewing constraints for rational two-dimensional conformal fieldtheory on oriented surfaces with possibly non-empty boundary. The boundarycondition is taken to be the same on all segments of the boundary. The following uniqueness result is established: For a solution to the sewingconstraints with nondegenerate closed state vacuum and nondegenerate two-pointcorrelators of boundary fields on the disk and of bulk fields on the sphere, upto equivalence all correlators are uniquely determined by the one-, two,- andthree-point correlators on the disk. Thus for any such theory every consistentcollection of correlators can be obtained by the TFT approach of [hep-th/0204148] and [hep-th/0503194].As morphisms of the category of world sheets we includenot only homeomorphisms, but also sewings; interpreting the correlatorsas a natural transformation then encodes covariance both under homeomorphismsand under sewings of world sheets.

  • Factors of importance for work satisfaction among nurses in a university hospital in Sweden
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences. - : Wiley. - 0283-9318 .- 1471-6712. ; 22:2, s. 151-160
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The shortage of registered nurses in the healthcare sector is a problem in most countries. Swedish nurses tend to leave or seek new positions. However, few Swedish studies have addressed questions regarding what factors are of importance for nurses to perceive work satisfaction although satisfied nurses are linked to many positive organizational outcomes, e.g. improved quality of patient care. The aim of this study was to investigate what factors are of importance for nurses at a university hospital to perceive work satisfaction. Eight hundred and thirty-three nurses responded to the mailed Quality Work Competence questionnaire and the Huddinge University Hospital Model Questionnaire. Regression analyses identifies five factors linked to the head nurses leadership contributing to the nurses' feelings of work satisfaction: 'professional competence is made good use of', 'feeling of satisfaction with immediate superior regarding support for nursing research and development', 'opportunities for developing one's own competence for the current job', 'career opportunities in one's own profession' and 'yearly dialogue for performance appraisal with immediate superior'. The nurses also reported work-related exhaustion. Few saw opportunities for making a career as a nurse. In conclusion, the study identified specific amenable factors linked to the head nurses leadership that are of importance in creating attractive workplaces for nurses.

  • Predictors of nurses' perceptions of barriers to research utilization
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nursing Management. - : Hindawi Limited. - 0966-0429 .- 1365-2834. ; 16:3, s. 305-314
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To identify predictors of nurses' self-reported barriers to using research findings in clinical practice. Background Several studies have shown that nurses perceive barriers to research utilization but to our knowledge predictors of nurses perceptions of barriers to research utilization have not been identified before. Methods Three questionnaires were answered by 833 nurses: the Barriers Scale, the Quality Work Competence questionnaire and a questionnaire including questions on professional issues. Results Dissatisfaction with support from immediate superiors for participating in research and/or development projects, having no academic degree and unclear and unrealistic workplace goals were identified as factors increasing the risk of perceiving barriers to the use of research findings in clinical practice. Conclusions The results imply that head nurses, nursing managers and other health care leaders should create strategies for supporting nurses' professional development and possibilities to implement research findings in clinical practice. Implications for nursing management To support research utilization and evidence-based care health care leaders, head nurses and nurse managers should create clear and realistic goals for the work place including demands on evidence-based care. It is also important for head nurses and nurse managers to create strategies for supporting nurses' professional development and possibilities to implement research findings in clinical practice.

  • Visual flow scene effects on the somatogravic illusion in non-pilots
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine. - 0095-6562 .- 1943-4448. ; 79:9, s. 860-866
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: The somatogravic illusion (SGI) is easily broken when the pilot looks out the aircraft window during daylight flight, but it has proven difficult to break or even reduce the SGI in non-pilots in simulators using synthetic visual scenes. Could visual-flow scenes that accommodate compensatory head movement reduce the SGI in naive subjects? Methods: We investigated the effects of visual cues on the SGI induced by a human centrifuge. The subject was equipped with a head-tracked, head-mounted display (HMD) and was seated in a fixed gondola facing the center of rotation. The angular velocity of the centrifuge increased from near zero until a 0.57-G centripetal acceleration was attained, resulting in a tilt of the gravitoinertial force vector, corresponding to a pitch-up of 30 degrees. The subject indicated perceived horizontal continuously by means of a manual adjustable-plate system. We performed two experiments with within-subjects designs. In Experiment 1, the subjects (N = 13) viewed a darkened TIMID and a presentation of simple visual flow beneath a horizon. In Experiment 2, the subjects (N = 12) viewed a darkened HMD, a scene including symbology superimposed on simple visual flow and horizon, and this scene without visual flow (static). Results: In Experiment 1, visual flow reduced the SGI from 12.4 +/- 1.4 degrees (mean +/- SE) to 8.7 +/- 1.5 degrees. In Experiment 2, the SGI was smaller in the visual flow condition (9.3 +/- 1.8 degrees) than with the static scene (13.3 +/- 1.7 degrees) and without HMD presentation (14.5 +/- 2.3 degrees), respectively. Conclusion: It is possible to reduce the SGI in non-pilots by means of a synthetic horizon and simple visual flow conveyed by a head-tracked HMD. This may reflect the power of a more intuitive display for reducing the SGI.

  • On the Reconstruction of Gapped Sinusoidal Data
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 2008 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ACOUSTICS, SPEECH AND SIGNAL PROCESSING. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE. - 9781424414833 ; , s. 3513-3516
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of estimating a spectral representation of damped sinusoidal signals from a gapped data set is of considerable interest in several applications. In this paper, we propose a filterbank approach to provide such an estimate, by first reconstructing the missing data samples assuming that the spectral content of the missing data is similar to that of the available samples, and then forming a spectral representation of the reconstruced data set as a function of frequency and damping. Numerical examples illustrate the benefits of the proposed estimator as compared to currently available methods.

  • Experience of quality of life and attitude to care and treatment in patients with schizophrenia : Role of cross-sectional remission
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International journal of psychiatry in clinical practice (Print). - : Informa UK Limited. - 1365-1501 .- 1471-1788. ; 12:2, s. 97-104
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective The concept of cross-sectional remission was investigated in a sample of patients with schizophrenia. A total of 243 patients were tested for quality of life, burden and handicap, insight and satisfaction with the care provided in an epidemiological study. The question addressed was if remission is of importance for outcome. Methods Cross-sectional remission was defined by applying the symptom criteria of remission, where none of eight selected PANSS items should exceed 3 points. Out of 243 patients, 38% were in met cross-sectional remission. Quality of life was assessed with the MOS SF-36 and the Rosser Index. The Patients' understanding of their illness was assessed based on symptoms and disorder insight. Finally, attitudes to care and, health service were assessed by the UKU/Consumer Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Drug Attitude Inventory. Results Patients who were in cross-sectional remission reported higher quality of life and reduced burden related to the disorder, a greater level of insight into their symptoms and the illness, and a more positive attitude to treatment, including drugs. Conclusion This study implies that remission, here expressed in terms of cross-sectional remission, is of importance for patients' well-being. Patients who had no interference from symptoms in their daily functioning found their life better, had a superior insight and were more positive to treatment.
