  • Technical Change, Location and Trade
  • 1987
  • Ingår i: Papers in regional science (Print). - Umeå : Umeå universitet. - 1056-8190 .- 1435-5957. ; 62:1, s. 13-35
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The difference between the slow adjustment of localized resources and the faster processes of technical change and product renewal cause a relocation pressure on existing production. Introduction of new products, techniques and establishments is stimulated by opportunities to attain temporary monopoly profits and is restrained by sunk costs in older vintages and competition for local resources. Introduction is more frequent in nodes with a rich and varied importstructure. The process can be modelledas a chain of import, production and export cycles with relocation. Conditions for introduction and change of location are analysed by means of a spatial vintage model.

  • Uncertainty in cooperation between service buyers and sellers
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: <em>Working paper series, Uppsala university</em>. - Uppsala : Företagsekonomiska institutionen.
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The realization of relationship marketing requires cooperative exchangebetween buyers and sellers. A key determinant of cooperative exchange isuncertainty perceived by the cooperating parties. This study investigates howcooperation is affected by decision makers’ perception of uncertainties in theenvironmental context, in relationships, and in decision-making routines. Asample of 135 branch managers from banks is used in a LISREL model. Theresults show that uncertainty regarding relationship and decision-making havestrong direct effects on relationship cooperation. An important finding is thatcontextual uncertainty causes relationship cooperation indirectly. The resultshighlight the importance of organization in firms that aim to facilitatecooperation between buyer and seller. In addition, they set an agenda forfuture research.

  • Regional Clustering of Human Capital : School Grades and Migration of University Graduates
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The annals of regional science. - Umeå : Umeå University. - 0570-1864 .- 1432-0592. ; 52:2, s. 561-581
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The spatial distribution of human capital plays a fundamental role for regional differences in economic growth and welfare. This paper examines how individual ability indicated by the grade point average (GPA), from comprehensive school, affects the probability of migration among young university graduates in Sweden. Using detailed micro data available from the Swedish population registers, the study examines two cohorts of individuals who enrol in tertiary education. The results indicate that individual abilities reflected by the GPA are strongly influential when it comes to completing a university degree and for the migration decision after graduation. Moreover, there is a positive relationship between the GPA and the choice of migrating from regions with a relatively low tax base and a relatively small share of highly educated people in the population. Analogously, individuals with a high GPA tend to stay at a higher rate in more flourishing regions.

  • The vision thing : Actors, decision-making and lock-in effects in Swedish road safety policy since the 1990s
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper investigates the introduction of and consequences of the “Vision Zero” (Nollvisionen) that was part of a law passed in 1997 and called for a radical reduction of deaths caused by road traffic. We try to answer the question why the Vision Zero has failed to reach its goals for the last ten years. The introduction of the Vision Zero can be explained with a combination of changes in traffic policy and welfare policy, together with a reorganization of the transport sector that created new opportunities for old interest groups. Our main conclusion is that the strong idealistic and visionary political goals in the Vision Zero are in line with a Swedish tradition of over-arching visionary national goals for the transport sector in general. Idealistic goals suppressed critical objections, but at the same time there were insufficient resources for investments and lack of approval for the policy from actors within the sector, which can create lock-in effects and actually prevent effective policies from being implemented. This might explain the relative ineffectiveness of the policy, and the slim chances of the Vision Zero to ever being achieved.

  • The unexpected meeting : How to create unique colour choises for products
  • 2017
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The goal of my artistic development work was to deepen my knowledge in the area of colouring for products. In my practice I have worked with colouring in several fields of product design, in different materials and contexts. Since I started working as an industrial designer in the 90’s the importance of colour for the success of the design has become more obvious in recent years. Colour expertise from material suppliers and trend institutions are regarded as truth and many companies rely on their forecasts. The strategies and choices of colour can be made without the designer.Scanning through colour history to find ideas related to colour and form I found that this is an area still to be explored. In this work I have had two different tasks that I wanted to look at. My first challenge was to see if I could make colour suggestions for a product/form regardless of trends and prejudice. My other task was to see if I could find a creative way of working with colour to boost the process. Testing my creativity by performing colour studies conducted by chance. The intention was to see if these two different approaches would converge in some way by testing new strategies to approach colour and form. I hoped to find a way as a designer to strengthen my professionalism and I also wanted to find out if the exercises were valuable for teaching colour on form as a subject. Our perception and ways to interpret colour is influenced by experience, social norms and short-lived trends. In my process I wanted to be free from conventional thinking and have a norm critical approach.Reflecting on the result there is still much to be explored in the field of colour and product. To continue this work I can see many tracks and one would be to explore the connection between function of a product and its colour. Another track would be to look at the intuitive part of the colouring process versus design method.
