- Regional Aesthetics: Locating Swedish Media maps more than two hundred years of Swedish media. It ranges from written travelogues in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries via feature films, documentaries, TV programmes, literature and press to contemporary video activism on the Internet. The nineteen contributors navigate the reader through a variety of media landscapes by advocating an interdisciplinary approach to “the communication of place” that mixes in-depth analyses of specific phenomena with a general understanding of modern media representations. Accordingly, this is a book that recurrently combines textual close readings with historical contextualizations in new ways.

- This collection of 19 essays is the first one devoted to function-oriented analyses of intermedial interrelationships in literature, art, music, and film. The contributors — among others, Werner Wolf, James Heffernan, Walter Bernhart, Siglind Bruhn, Claus Clüver, Valerie Robillard, and Tamar Yacobi — are leading international scholars in the field of intermediality. The common basis of the essays in this volume — ranging from intermedial studies of medieval liturgical practices, early cinema, modernist art, ekphrasis, music and literature, art and literature, film and literature, hymns, and pop music, to the musical and technological aspects of Concrete poetry — is the ambition to pay attention to the cultural contexts that enhance the significance of these intermedial works and trends under examination. Since the contributions cover different types of intermedial endeavours from various periods and times, a kind of historicizing perspective is outlined. So, in pursuit of a still lacking coherent historical survey of cultural functions of intermediality, this volume might be recognized as a step towards such a Funktionsgeschichte for intermedial exploration.

- This book on Swedish film-maker Ingmar Bergman contains 18 new essays, representing parts of modern scholarship on the director’s work, mainly in the cinema. Most of the contributors to the book, some of them Swedish, others American or British, have written lavishly on Bergman previously, some even for decades. Bergman is one of the most written about artists in film history and his fame still lingers all over the world, as could be seen in the celebrations of his centenary in 2018. The book was specifically conceived back then with the aim to present fresh angles on his work, even if many essays also focus on traditional aspects of Bergman’s art, like philosophy and psychology. Thus, the book presents a number of essential subjects which have been hitherto somewhat absent from Bergman studies: like the director’s relations with Hollywood and transnational film production. It also focuses on Bergman’s highly sophisticated use of film music and his prominence as a writer of autobiographical literature and the inevitable intermedial relations to his films that this will encompass. Finally, it also addresses Bergman’s complex relations to Swedish politics.Many different approaches and methods are employed in the book in order to show that Bergman still is a relevant and important artist. The analyses generally focus on some of his most memorable films, like Smiles of a Summer Night, The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, Persona and Fanny and Alexander, but also on rarer material like Hour of the Wolf, The Lie and Autumn Sonata.
