- These papers were originally presented at the XVIIIe conference on Romance language research in Scandinavia that took place at the University of Gothenburg August 9–12, 2011, bringing together researchers from Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Baltic, and Swedish universities. The subjects approached cover a broad range of areas within linguistics, translation studies, literary studies and didactics. The following specialists were invited as key-note speakers: Manuel Alberca, Philippe Gasparini, Zlatka Guentchéva, and Martin Maiden.

L'expérience d'une impérialité banale et quotidienne.Dans le sillage d'une histoire attentive aux trajectoires individuelles et aux corps, mais aussi aux imbrications des échelles, ce livre a pris forme autour de quatorze portraits d'hommes et de femmes qui ont été enserrés dans le tissu complexe d'un empire. Chacune de ces personnes a appris à manoeuvrer au sein d'un enchâssement de réseaux de sociabilité et de pouvoir. Une correspondance, un testament, un rapport administratif, les pièces d'un procès ont été autant de fenêtres ouvertes sur les manières d'évoluer dans ces systèmes hiérarchisés, aux rouages plus fragiles qu'il n'y paraît.Serviteurs ou entrepreneurs, ces hommes et ces femmes révèlent par leurs trajectoires toujours singulières les dynamiques comme les tensions qui traversent ces ensembles hétérogènes que sont les empires.

Construction, acquisition et communication : Études linguistiques de discours contemporains

- The fourteen articles in this volume provide examples of work in three fields dealing with (1) linguistic constructions, (2) second language acquisition and (3) communication, especially media discourse. The first group contains six articles concerned primarily with syntactic and semantic questions in contemporary French. They demonstrate among other things that the position of the adjective in French affects its semantics, with an adjective placed before the noun being more dependent than one placed after the noun. It is also shown that the use of the French past participle differs significantly in written and spoken language, depending on the type of past participle. Other articles in this group show that the possessive pronoun does not always express possession and that in some uses demonstrative pronouns can be dependent on a following relative clause. Together, the three articles in the second group show that even the most advanced learners of a foreign language can be influenced by their mother tongue and that presentation techniques are relatively similar among speakers, whether they be language learners, aphasics or native speakers. The third group, consisting of five articles, demonstrates that in the press the present participle is used mostly as an adjective placed after the noun, whereas in literary texts it usually has the function of an attribute or is used in absolute constructions. It is also established that there are considerably more exclamations, markers of spoken language and plays on words in the headlines of the French satirical paper examined than in those of informative newspapers. In another article in this group, the author shows how the use of Spanish second-person forms of address in the singular and plural varies in advertisements in order to create intimacy on one hand and distance on the other. In another article in this group, rules, principles and sanctions are also examined, based on the author’s participation in a French language chat site. The last article demonstrates the use of a quantitative approach in interactional analyses, based on a video recording from a television broadcast. A majority of the articles treat aspects of written and spoken modern French. The materials examined enable the authors to define characteristics of different text genres, ranging from formal to informal language, and also present theoretical, terminological and grammatical analyses of linguistic phenomena and usage at different levels of language.

- The present volume. Tropes du Sanctus, is a Corpus Troporum edition of liturgical tropes to the chants of the medieval Roman mass. This edition, the second in the series of Ordinary tropes, is based on 137 manuscripts dating from the tenth through the thirteenth centuries.The volume encompasses three major parts: an introduction, the edition and an inventory. In the introduction is presented the base chant and the medieval interpretations of the text. It also contains a study of the compositional forms of the tropes added to this chant, followed by a study of the different themes of the trope texts and a short summary of the various forms of versification.The central part of the volume consists of a critical edition of 174 texts added to the Sanctus chant. The Sanctus tropes are edited as unites, as are the Agnus Dei tropes in volume IV, and not like elements of Proper tropes.The edition is followed by a table which corresponds to the tables of the volumes of Proper tropes, presenting all combinations of the trope verses of each manuscript.The third major part of the volume is a detailed inventory of the repertories of Sanctus tropes in the manuscrips of the edition. It provides information on the localisation, rubrics and structure of each single trope, as well as the melody of the specific Sanctus chant connected to each trope.Finally, the volume contains several indices, a bibliography and 32 plates.
