    • A transition to a low-carbon economy requires farreaching reductions in emissions, which in addition will have to take place at the same time as the global population is growing. A growing population also makes ever greater demands on welfare, while the ecological, social and economic systems that have to sustain this development are already under severe strain. It is commonly argued that emission reductions in a growing world economy can and should be achieved by technical innovations so that the transition to a low-carbon economy does not imply a negative impact on human well-being.This report discusses whether there might perhaps be another way of understanding the situation. Is the presumed linkage between well-being and climate impact always negative? Could a greater focus on human well-being be a driver of, rather than an obstacle to, sustainable development? This report attempts to identify possible strategies to support both [the good life] and decreased emissions. By adopting this research approach, the authors aim to make a contribution to the discussion of low-carbon transitions in society.

    • Denna rapport är framtagen inom ramen för Mistra Urban Futures-projektet WISE - Well-being In Sustainable cities, och mer specifikt inom delprojektet Klimatomställning Göteborg: potentialer och livskvalitetseffekter. Göteborgarnas klimatpåverkan idag och potentialer för framtiden beräknas avseende boende, transporter, mat, etc. Detta kan ge en samlad bild av möjligheterna att nå klimatmålen. En livskvalitetskoppling är att denna överblick kan ge underlag för en samhällsdiskussion om vilka vägar för att uppnå klimatmålen som människor föredrar. Syftet med denna underlagsrapport är att beräkna potentialer för utsläppsminskningar till 2050 från svenskarnas matkonsumtion. Beräkningar har gjorts för år 2006, samt för nio alternativa scenarier för 2050.

    • The City of Gothenburg has since 2008 a consumption-based climate target which is including emissions occurring outside the city boundaries due to the residents' consumption, for example from air-travel. The city's climate program from 2014 includes the goal that ”The climate impact of citizen’s air travel will be reduced by at least 20 percent by 2030, compared to 2010.” The City of Gothenburg have therefore a clear need to be able to measure and monitor emissions from air travel. This report is a crucial step in this process. The report covers, for the first time, annual data on greenhouse gas emissions from citizens’ air-travel. The results show that the average citizen in Gothenburg (as well as for Swedes on average) cause around 1.2 tonnes of CO2-eq / person per year from air travel (about 1.0 tonnes from private travel and 0.2 tonnes from business trips). This represents more than half of a sustainable emissions budget in order to reach the two-degree target in 2050 and is in the same range as for example the climate impact of car travel.
