  • Switchable polarization-sensitive surface plasmon resonance of highly stable gold nanorods-liquid crystals composites
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Optoelectronic Materials and Devices VI. - Washington, D.C. : SPIE. - 9780819489616
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, we demonstrate the bulk self-alignment of gold nanorods (GNRs) dispersed in lyotropic nematic liquid crystals (LCs) with high optical absorption coefficient at the surface plasmon resonant wavelength. The polymer-coated GNRs which show spontaneous long-range orientational ordering along the director of LC host exhibit long-term stability as well as high concentration. External magnetic field and shearing allow for alignment and realignment of the orientation of gold nanorods by changing the director of the liquid crystal matrix. This results in a switchable polarization-sensitive surface plasmon resonance exhibiting stark differences from that of the same nanorods in isotropic fluids. The devise-scale bulk nanoparticle alignment may enable optical metamaterial mass production and control of surface plasmon resonance of nanoparticles.

  • Experimental realization of a low-loss nano-scale Si hybrid plasmonic waveguide
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Optics InfoBase Conference Papers. - Washington : Optical Society of America. - 9781557529060
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel hybrid plasmonic waveguide with nano-scale confinement, consisting of a metal layer separated from a SOI nano-rib by a thin silica layer has been realized. The loss of 0.01dB/μm allows for ultra-high density photonic integration.

  • MIMO reference antennas for OTA applications
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2013 7th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, EuCAP 2013. - New York : IEEE. - 9788890701832 ; , s. 2556-2557, s. 2243-2244
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, MIMO reference antennas with different correlation coefficients are proposed for Over-The-Air (OTA) applications. The correlation can be simply controlled through a slot etched on a dual-feed PIFA with the similar total efficiency. Three kinds of situations are investigated with the proposed method: high correlation (HC), mid correlation (MC), and low correlation (LC). In order to verify the introduced idea, the measurements of correlations and efficiencies are carried out in a reverberation chamber. The simulation and measurement agree well with each other.

  • Interaction With Social Robots : Improving Gaze Toward Face but Not Necessarily Joint Attention in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychology. - : FRONTIERS MEDIA SA. - 1664-1078. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is widely recognized that robot-based interventions for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) hold promise, but the question remains as to whether social humanoid robots could facilitate joint attention performance in children with ASD. In this study, responsive joint attention was measured under two conditions in which different agents, a human and a robot, initiated joint attention via video. The participants were 15 children with ASD (mean age: 4.96 +/- 1.10 years) and 15 typically developing (TD) children (mean age: 4.53 +/- 0.90 years). In addition to analyses of fixation time and gaze transitions, a longest common subsequence approach (LCS) was employed to compare participants' eye movements to a predefined logical reference sequence. The fixation of TD toward agent's face was earlier and longer than children with ASD. Moreover, TD showed a greater number of gaze transitions between agent's face and target, and higher LCS scores than children with ASD. Both groups showed more interests in the robot's face, but the robot induced a lower proportion of fixation time on the target. Meanwhile participants showed similar gaze transitions and LCS results in both conditions, suggesting that they could follow the logic of the joint attention task induced by the robot as well as human. We have discussed the implications for the effects and applications of social humanoid robots in joint attention interventions.

  • RF Compliance Study of Temperature Elevation in Human Head Model Around 28 GHz for 5G User Equipment Application : Simulation Analysis
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 2169-3536. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The crowdedness of current cellular bands and the demand for higher transmission speed prompt the use of the millimeter-wave spectrum for the next-generation mobile communication. In the millimeter-wave frequencies, the dosimetric quantity for human exposure to electromagnetic fields changes from the specific absorption rate to incident power density. In this paper, we used 28-GHz beam-steering patch arrays, a dipole antenna, and plane waves to investigate the temperature elevation in a multi-layer model of human head and its correlation with power density metrics. The power density averaged over one square-centimeter in free space and the peak temperature elevation in tissue at 28 GHz have good correlation. The peak temperature elevation indicated by the power density averaged one square-centimeter also agrees well with the peak temperature elevation induced by the plane waves. The results show that the averaging area of a few square-centimeters may be a good candidate for the spatial-average power density. The findings provide valuable input to the ongoing revision and updating of relevant safety standards and guidelines.
