- The present invention concerns a coherent light source based on frequency conversion of the radiation from two lasers (20, 21) by frequency mixing in optical waveguides (10; 90), which are provided in a substrate (1). The wavelengths for the two lasers (20, 21) should be such, that the phase matching condition for the optically nonlinear frequency conversion is fulfilled in the waveguide structure (10; 90). The frequency conversion is accomplished in the form of frequency mixing, frequency doubling or down conversion in frequency by parametric oscillation so that in total three or four new wavelengths can be generated. By using integrated optics technique the output radiation can be controlled in various ways, for example be switched to different output waveguides, varied in intensity or colour balance.

- Segmented waveguides for wavelength conversion (e.g., waveguides comprising alternating sections of crystalline substrate having the formula K1-x Rbx TiOMO4 where x is from 0 to 1 and M is P or As and sections of substrate material in which cations of said substrate have been partially replaced) and devices and processes employing segmented waveguides for wavelength conversion are disclosed wherein a periodic structure along the waveguide provides a Bragg reflection having a wavelength essentially equal to the wavelength of the input wave used for wavelength conversion. Also disclosed is a process for preparing a channel waveguide for a wavelength conversion system wherein areas along a portion of a crystal substrate surface used for forming the desired channel are alternately masked and unmasked during cation replacement by immersion in a molten salt.

- The present invention relates to a process for improving the immunogenicity of an immunogen, an antigen or a hapten, when it is administered to a host, independently of the mode of administration, characterized in that the said antigen or hapten is coupled covalently to a support molecule in order to form a complex, and in that this support molecule is a polypeptide fragment which is able to bind specifically to mammalian serum albumin. The invention also relates to the use, as a medicament, of the product which can be obtained in this way.

- A method for preparing a peptide or protein, wherein (a) a DNA sequence coding for a heterologous polypeptide on a peptide sequence between amino acid residues 130 and 230 of respiratory syncytial virus protein G, sub-groups A and B, or a peptide sequence at least 80 % homologous thereto, and (b) means enabling the expression of the polypeptide on the bacterial membrane surface, are inserted into a bacterium which is not pathogenic for mammals. The resulting conjugate polypeptide and a live bacterium expressing same, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use for preparing a vaccine, as well as a DNA sequence coding for said polypeptide, are also disclosed.

Date May 17, 1990.In a method for measuring the mass flow M of a fluid flowing through a pipe having a cross-sectional area A, the sound velocity c2 in the fluid is determined as well as the flow velocity v of the fluid by sing-around technique. Further, reflection technique is used which comprises measuring the amplitude both of an ultrasonic pulse which has been reflected in a boundary between a first and a second material having different acoustic impedances, and of an ultrasonic pulse which has been reflected in the boundary between the second material and the fluid, it being possible to determine the density of the fluid on the basis of the measured amplitudes, the sound velocity c2 in the fluid and the acoustic impedances of the first and the second material. The mass flow M is then obtainable as M=vxAx rho 2. A mass flowmeter especially has a transducer with a piezoelectric crystal (5), a first block (6) of a first material disposed adjacent said crystal, and a second block (7) of a second material disposed between the first block and the fluid, and calculating and amplitude metering means (10 and 12).

- Mechanical and chemimechanical cellulose pulp, particularly paper pulp, is produced at a low energy input by disintegrating and beating wood material in one or more stages. Acccording to the invention, a substance capable of forming complexes with polyvalent metal ions, particularly calcium ions, so-called complexing agent, is added to the wood material prior to the beating process in order to replace said calcium or other polyvalent metal ions with sodium ions, therewith a further reduction in the energy input is obtained.

- The present invention concerns a device for conversion of a binary floating-point number into a binary fix-point 2-logarithm number or the opposite. This is done in the case of conversion of a binary floating-point number by making the invention include an input register where the floating-point number is stored, an output register for the calculated logarithm, a device that transfers the exponent of the floating-point number from the input register to the output register, where it directly forms the characteristic of the logarithm, a device that transfers the fractional part of the mantissa of the floating-point number from the input register to an adder and also to one or more part circuits that form additional parts, a device that transfers the additional parts to the adder, said adder that adds the fractional part of the mantissa of the floating-point number and said additional parts and a device that transfers the sum from the adder to the output register where it forms the fractional part of 2-logarithm. The conversion from logarithm is carried out in a similar manner and with the same components.
