  • Introducing the CTA concept
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Astroparticle Physics. - Elsevier. - 0927-6505 .- 1873-2852. ; 43, s. 3-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
    • The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a new observatory for very high-energy (VHE) gamma rays. CTA has ambitions science goals, for which it is necessary to achieve full-sky coverage, to improve the sensitivity by about an order of magnitude, to span about four decades of energy, from a few tens of GeV to above 100 TeV with enhanced angular and energy resolutions over existing VHE gamma-ray observatories. An international collaboration has formed with more than 1000 members from 27 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. In 2010 the CTA Consortium completed a Design Study and started a three-year Preparatory Phase which leads to production readiness of CTA in 2014. In this paper we introduce the science goals and the concept of CTA, and provide an overview of the project. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Design concepts for the Cherenkov Telescope Array CTA an advanced facility for ground-based high-energy gamma-ray astronomy
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Experimental astronomy (Print). - Springer. - 0922-6435. ; 32:3, s. 193-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has had a major breakthrough with the impressive results obtained using systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has a huge potential in astrophysics, particle physics and cosmology. CTA is an international initiative to build the next generation instrument, with a factor of 5-10 improvement in sensitivity in the 100 GeV-10 TeV range and the extension to energies well below 100 GeV and above 100 TeV. CTA will consist of two arrays (one in the north, one in the south) for full sky coverage and will be operated as open observatory. The design of CTA is based on currently available technology. This document reports on the status and presents the major design concepts of CTA.

  • De guldglänsande ryttarna : C-brakteaternas ikonografi i ny belysning
  • 2008
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
    • The gold-bracteates from the migration period are circular medallion like objects with a diameter of about 5 cm. The production began at approximately AD 450 and came to an end at about AD 550. Thus the bracteates were in use for a period of a hundred years. This dissertation focuses on the iconography of the so called C-bracteates. The motifs of the C-bracteates depicts a human head over four legged animals, both in profile. In addition there are often some kinds of ideograms. Instead of using Old Norse texts to interpret the motifs, I have analysed the imagery of the bracteates against a background of Celtic religion and worldview.<br /> <br /> One theoretical basis of the thesis is that the imagery of southern Scandinavia from the migration period may be analysed against the background of Celtic iconography. One of the reasons why Celtic imagery may be used is that Celts and Germans probably had so much in common that it would have been difficult to tell them apart. Lately the divergence of Celts and Germans has been questioned. I share the opinion of those researchers who believe that the differences between these cultures have most likely been exaggerated.<br /> <br /> My intention is to study bracteates’ iconography without using written mythology either Celtic or Old Norse. Hence it is not reasonable to expect a particular name for the bracteate-riders. On the other hand it is possible to examine some Celtic gods that may have resembled the beings on the C-bracteates, but I do not mean that the riders on the bracteates depict Celtic divinities. My conclusion is that if the meanings of ideograms, the fauna, and the riders are put together a reinforced sun symbolism with connotations of abundance and fertility will appear. However the pictorial motifs also express a symbolism of death and underworld. These may seem incompatible with each other, but in Celtic religion these themes are closely linked together and both may be seen on the iconography of the C-bractreates.

  • Etnicitet och övervikt: implicita arbetsrelaterade fördomar i Sverige
  • 2007

  • Gender differences in implicit moral orientation associations: The justice and care debate revisited
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Current Research in Social Psychology. - 1088-7423. ; 17, s. 10-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Employing new measures (Implicit Association Test) to study the classic issue of moral orientations, we predicted and found gender differences in implicit associations to the concepts of justice and care. Specifically, we found that men more strongly associate justice vs. care with importance and with themselves than women. However, participants’ explicit ratings did not reveal any clear patterns of gender differences, which is consistent with previous studies. Implications for social psychological theory and research on morality are discussed.

  • Look at yourself!: Visual perspective influences moral judgment through level of mental construal
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Social Psychology. - Hogrefe & Huber Publishers. - 1864-9335 .- 2151-2590. ; 44:1, s. 42-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous research (Libby et al., 2009) has established that a third-person (outside) visual perspective elicits more abstract processing than a first-person (inside) perspective. Because many moral principles constitute abstract psychological constructs, we predicted that they should weigh more heavily when people adopt a third-person visual perspective. In two experiments we show that a third- (vs. first-) person visual perspective leads to harsher judgments of one’s own morally questionable actions. Moreover, we demonstrate that this effect can be partially explained by level of mental construal. The present research suggests that simple visual perspective techniques may be used to promote moral behavior.

  • Moral concerns are greater for temporally distant events and are moderated by value strength
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Social Cognition. - Guilford Press. ; 27:2, s. 261-282
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • he present research examines the impact of temporal distance on moral concerns in situations where selfish motives clash with altruistic considerations. Drawing upon Construal Level Theory (Trope &amp; Liberman, 2003) which posits that abstract, high-level features of events and social values take on more weight with greater temporal distance, we hypothesized that moral concerns should be higher for temporally distant situations. The results from five experiments supported this conjecture. People indicated they would be more likely to choose altruistic over selfish behaviors, reported they would feel more guilty about engaging in selfish behavior, thought acting selfishly would be more immoral, and were more likely to commit to altruistic behavior when thinking about distant versus near future events. Moreover, as predicted, temporal distance primarily enhanced moral concerns among individuals with high moral value strength. Support was also obtained in favor of the assumption that value salience was responsible for the temporal distance effect on moral concerns. Practical and theoretical implications are discussed.
