  • The Playful Police : The Role of Social Media in Public Institutions’ Legitimacy Work
  • 2015
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Public authorities are rarely associated with creativity and playfulness. Rather, it can be threatening civic legitimacy. With the introduction of social media, a new channel opens possibilities for officers to meet the public and interact in more personal and creative ways than previously. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, have become important in people’s everyday lives as well as for organizational use. These technologies encourage self-expression, and allow users to create and share content, to comment and show appreciation or dislike of content. It also makes social networks visible. For public authorities, social media is a double-edged sword. It is a promising technology for dialogue with the citizens, but it may also facilitate the mobilization and coordination of criticism from the public. This is due to the dynamics and disruption afforded by the social media platforms. With the Swedish police officers’ Facebook interaction as empirical setting, the aim of this paper is to discuss how the increased use of social media affects the police’s legitimacy work. The study contributes with a deeper understanding of the interplay between social media and competing value logics in the context of public authorities, as it highlights the institutional tensions between official authority and playfulness. The empirical example of the police is used to show how social media creates new possibilities for creativity and playfulness.

  • Alleviating piracy through open source strategy: An exploratory study of business software firms in China
  • 2009
  • In: The Journal of strategic informations systems. - : Elsevier. - 0963-8687. ; 18:4, s. 165-177
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper advances the existing knowledge of anti-piracy strategies by proposing an open source strategy (OS strategy) to alleviate software piracy based on a qualitative, case-based, exploratory study of eight software firms operating in China. The paper shows that the OS strategy is conditionally adoptable, depending on how users are willing to pay for services (market conditions); how critical and complex software is required for upgrading and modifications (software conditions); and how firms can avoid resources overloading and/or shortage (firm conditions). The paper also identifies several new indicators to assess the effectiveness of the OS strategy against piracy. Managerial implications about how to improve business in piracy-ridden environment are discussed.

  • Changing success and failure factors in business negotiations with the PRC
  • 2008
  • In: International Business Review. - : Elsevier BV. - 0969-5931 .- 1873-6149. ; 17:2, s. 159-169
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article studies the factors that could affect success and failure in business negotiations with the People's Republic of China (PRC). By comparing this study with two earlier studies on the same subject conducted in the 1980s and 1990s, respectively, the article suggests that both success and failure factors in negotiating with the PRC are in transition. The article emphasizes the importance of trust, professionalism, technology, and price competition in negotiating with the Chinese in post-WTO China. Future research and managerial implications are discussed.

  • Is videoconference a useful tool for co-ordinated health care planning? : An evaluation study in progress
  • 2000
  • In: Proceedings of the 23rd Information System Research Seminar in Scandinavia. - Uddevalla : Laboratorium for Interaction Technology University of Trollhättan Uddevalla. ; , s. 1385-1400
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this article, some initial results from an evaluation study of test work in progress with videoconferences for co-ordinated health care planning are reported and discussed. Two wards at the hospital of Alingsås in Sweden participate in the test, as well as some staff from the municipality of Vårgårda. The MOA-U model is used as an evaluation model. The patient perspective is especially focussed, but the experiences from the staff also are studied. Methods that are used in the evaluation work are participating observation, interviews and an inquiry.

  • Non-unitary neutrino mixing and CP violation in the minimal inverse seesaw model
  • 2009
  • In: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 679:3, s. 242-248
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We propose a simplified version of the inverse seesaw model, in which only two pairs of the gauge-singlet neutrinos are introduced, to interpret the observed neutrino mass hierarchy and lepton flavor mixing at or below the TeV scale. This "minimal" inverse seesaw scenario (MISS) is technically natural and experimentally testable. In particular, we show that the effective parameters describing the non-unitary neutrino mixing matrix are strongly correlated in the MISS, and thus, their upper bounds can be constrained by current experimental data in a more restrictive way. The Jarlskog invariants of non-unitary CP violation are calculated, and the discovery potential of such new CP-violating effects in the near detector of a neutrino factory is discussed.
