  • PRISMA IRIDES : PERFORMANCE AT THE END OF THE DRIFT PHASE & PLANNED RENDEZVOUS EXPERIMENTS
  • 2014
  • In: 9th International ESA Conference on Guidance, Navigation & Control Systems, Oporto, Portugal.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • PRISMA was launched on June 15, 2010 to demonstrate strategies and technologies for formation flying and rendezvous. OHB Sweden is the prime contractor for the project which is funded by the Swedish National Space Board with additional support from DLR, CNES, and DTU.PRISMA consists of two spacecraft: Mango and Tango. The Mango spacecraft is 3-axis stabilized and has a propulsion system providing full 3D orbit control. Tango is 3-axis stabilized with a solar magnetic control system and does not have orbit control capability. The two spacecraft were launched clamped together into a 700 km SSO and Tango was successfully separated from Mango on August 11, 2010.In April 2013, when both the nominal and extended mission phases were successfully completed, new objectives were assigned to the Mango spacecraft and the Tango spacecraft was shut down permanently. An eighteen month journey was started towards a new, non-cooperative space object to demonstrate rendezvous and inspection within an experiment called IRIDES (Iterative Reduction of Inspection Distance with Embedded Safety). The baseline rendezvous target is Picard.Since the start of IRIDES, the Mango spacecraft has completed a large series of optimized orbit manoeuvres that has put the spacecraft on a drift towards the new object. The rendezvous is expected in the second half of 2014 and will demonstrate optical relative navigation technologies and the characterization of the rendezvous object and its motion with the use of the on-board video system. The rendezvous strategy within IRIDES includes a series of collision free drift manoeuvres past the rendezvous object successively reducing the closest relative distance. The demonstrated technologies for this rendezvous are believed to play an important role in the future developments associated with space debris mitigation. The paper gives a brief introduction to PRISMA including a retrospective of the different achievements made in the mission. The paper then describes the optimized orbit manoeuvres made to acquire the drift orbit. The status of the drift finalization is then given where the initial manoeuvres performed to finalize the drift are described. The final part of the paper describes the planned activities within the rendezvous phase with focus on the IRIDES experiment.

  • Digitaliserad Trog-2 med manipulerad talhastighet
  • 2010
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Enacting "the local" in culinary tourism : A study of culinary actors and their practices
  • 2020
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • As the competition between destinations grows, the need to stand out and offer memorable and unique experiences also grows. Culinary experiences and activities with elements of “the local” are a growing niche, which mirrors the trend of knowing where the food originates, and that it has been grown, produced, and transported in an ecologically, socially and culturally sustainable way. To be able as a visitor to get close to the products and the producers by participating in the production process adds an additional dimension to the experience. In Sweden and other Nordic countries, the movement around the New Nordic Kitchen has fed the rising attention on the local crops, production methods, and traditions, and “the local” has thus developed as a way of enhancing the culinary experience through recent years. The local as a means of culinary tourism is a phenomenon which is visible in several contexts, as in the form of small-scale producer networks, as well as in regional and national efforts, politically as well as commercially. To the culinary actors the notion of the local seems to be something that connects the common interests and desires to offer unique and attractive food experiences. A certain “taken-for-grantedness” has thereby emerged around the local as something good and positive, not just in an environmental perspective, but even socially and culturally. The overall aim of this thesis is to study how culinary tourism is enacted as an economic, social, and cultural activity, through the notion of “the local”. The vision of Sweden – a new culinary nation, and a culinary tourism producer network in Southern Sweden act as examples of this process. The empirical data was collected by an ethnographic approach, through observations, conversations/interviews and the study of various documents. Taking a practice theoretical perspective, the thesis analyses how the local in culinary tourism is enacted in three practice-bundles: framing the ideal culinary destination, organising culinary tourism, and performing the local in culinary tourism. The analysis demonstrates how the local is enacted as a combination of acts such as positioning a culinary tourism profile, staging of culinary products and experiences, negotiating what or whom should be included in a culinary network, or ways of talking about the local as a part of rural policy, ways of designing food tours, or specific uses of local food products and other items in culinary activities. The thesis contributes to understanding the processes involved with the planning and performing of tourism experiences and activities, as well as the complexities therein. Thereby different tensions that emerge in this vein also become visible, such as tensions between the local and non-local, the commercial and ideal, as well as the physical and more abstract elements linked to the local.

  • Crack propagation in rails under RCF loading conditions based on material forces
  • 2011
  • In: Proceedings of NSCM-24, the 24th Nordic Seminar on Computational Mechanics. - 1799-4896. - 9789526043470 ; , s. 227-229
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In this paper, numerical simulations of crack growth in rails are presented. More specically, this paper focus on short surface (head-check like) cracks that are often observed at the rail gauge corner. A fatigue propagation law expressed in terms of a crack driving force, derived from the concept of material forces, is presented. This model has been used for parametric studies of crack propagation, investigating key parameters such as loading and crack geometry. The results obtained together with additional investigations suggest that anisotropic effects should be included in order to simulate head-check growth in rails more accurately.

  • Estimation of large-scale tour generation model taking travellers' daily tour pattern into account
  • 2019
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Tour generation is conventionally modelled separately per tour purpose. Tours with different purposes are however not generated independently of each other in reality. For example, few travellers conduct more than three tours per day. In this paper, the conventional tour generation model is extended into estimation of a model that takes travellers’ daily tour pattern into account. Results show that access to car and drivers’ licence, having a job and presence of children in the household increase the probability of making many tours in one day. Furthermore, results show that accessibility is an important factor for generation of non-mandatory tours, that weekend and holiday season are important determinants of when tour purposes are generated, that high income increases the probability of conducting business tours as well as tour patterns that include expensive activities and that high income reduces the probability of conducting cheap activities such as visiting friends and family.
