  • Decentralized Compute-and-Forward for Ad Hoc Networks
  • 2016
  • In: IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2162-2345 .- 2162-2337. ; 5:6, s. 652-655
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this letter, we introduce a decentralized compute-and-forward (DCMF) protocol to solve the rank failure problem in compute-and-forward (CMF) ad hoc multi-user multi-relay networks without a central coordinator. In sufficiently strong inter-relay links, we show that the DCMF scheme can reach the same achievable rate as in the successive centralized CMF (SCCMF), which is a modified version of the previously introduced centralized CMF in using our proposed successive method for a fair comparison. We evaluate the outage probability and rate of the proposed strategy, and compare the results with those of the conventional CMF and decode-and-forward, and the SCCMF.

  • Interference-Aware Molecular Detector Design for Clustered Bio-Nanonetworks
  • 2023
  • In: ICC 2023 - IEEE International Conference on Communications: Sustainable Communications for Renaissance. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. ; , s. 6084-6089
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We present a comprehensive approach to the modeling and design of clustered molecular bio-nanonetworks in which nano-machines of different clusters release an appropriate number of molecules to transmit their sensed information to their respective fusion centers. The fusion centers decode this information by counting the number of molecules received in the given time slot. Owing to the propagation properties of the biological media, this setup suffers from both inter- and intra-cluster interference that needs to be carefully modeled. We first develop a novel spatial model for this setup by modeling nano-machines as a Poisson cluster process with the fusion centers forming its parent point process. For this setup, we then derive a new set of distance distributions in the three-dimensional space, resulting in a remarkably simple result for the special case of the Thomas cluster process. Accordingly, total interference from previous symbols and different clusters is characterized and its expected value is obtained. Then, using the expected value, a simple detector suitable for biological applications is proposed. The impact of different parameters on the performance of the detector is also investigated.

  • The consultative work of occupational therapists working in municipal healthcare
  • 2011
  • In: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - : Informa Healthcare. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 18:2, s. 101-108
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The work of occupational therapists (OTs) in municipal healthcare has become more consultative in recent years. The aim of this study is to explore the content of the OTs’ consultative role in everyday activities in municipal healthcare. The study is based on data consisting of diary notes with additional reflections made by 23 OTs during three days. The data were subjected to content analysis. OTs are contacted via referrals (telephone calls or personal communication) to arrange consultations with patients, relatives, assistant staff, and colleagues. The OTs' consultative work consists of discussion, negotiation, information, or instruction, in relation to the advice and recommendations given. They also provide supervision and support to patients, relatives, and assistant staff. The advice and recommendations are evaluated. Thus, OTs' counselling consists of more than assessments and advice, as it also includes information, instruction, supervision, support, and evaluation. Further investigations are necessary in order to understand the competence that is needed and used in the consultative role of OTs in municipal healthcare. An implication for practice is that the healthcare managers need to support the OTs' possibility to provide supervision and support, especially in relation to assistant staff as they are responsible for everyday rehabilitation.

  • Numerical Simulation of the Flow Through a Kaplan Draft Tube
  • 2016
  • In: University “Politehnica” of Bucharest Scientific Bulletin, Series D: Mechanical Engineering. - : Universitatea Politehnica Bucuresti. - 1454-2358. ; 78:4, s. 215-224
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper presents a comparison between steady turbulent flow simulation results in the U9 Kaplan turbine draft tube and experimental velocity and pressure measurements. Two turbulence models were tested, k-epsilon and Shear StressTransport (SST). The results show that the k-epsilon model performs better than the SST model. The objective is to find a correlation between the pressure measured below the runner in the draft tube cone, and the optimal guide vane angle for a given bladeangle. Such correlation may allow the continuous online optimization of the cam characteristic. For this purpose, the influence of the tangential velocity on the pressure in the draft tube was specifically investigated.

  • Av- och återsektorisering i svenska kommuner : Avsektoriserade kommuners förändrade politiska organisation i ett longitudinellt perspektiv
  • 2018
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Browser selectivity alters post-fire competition between Erica arborea and E. trimera in the sub-alpine heathlands of Ethiopia
  • 2010
  • In: Plant Ecology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1385-0237 .- 1573-5052. ; 207, s. 149-160
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Mammalian herbivores have the potential to alter the competitive relations of woody species, if consumption is unevenly distributed between species. At elevations above 3,500 m in the southern Ethiopian highlands, vegetation is dominated by Erica arborea and E. trimera. Both species can potentially grow into short trees, but are burnt on a rotation of 6-10 years, and regenerate by re-sprouting from belowground lignotubers. The regenerating scrub is heavily browsed by cattle. We set up browsing exclosures at three burnt sites to quantify the impact of browsing over a 3-year period. When protected from browsing, E. trimera had similar or better height growth than E. arborea, but in browsed vegetation, E. arborea instead grew taller. Browsing was more intense on E. trimera in the first years after fire, indicating a difference in palatability between the species. We checked if browse quality differed, by analysing shoot contents of acid detergent fibre (ADF), protein, phenolics and tannins. Contrary to expectations, the preferred E. trimera contained more ADF, less protein and had a higher tannin activity than E. arborea. Although the vegetative growth of E. arborea is favoured relative to E. trimera under high browsing pressure, rapid change in abundance would not be expected, since short-interval fire will repeatedly eradicate any gains in vegetative growth. However, within the typical fire return interval of less than 10 years, E. trimera barely reach a reproductive state, whereas E. arborea flower profusely. Under the current regime of fire and browsing, this may in the long run be more important than differences in height growth, leading to a gradual increase in the proportion of E. arborea.
