  • The contributions to this volume are the result of the activities carried out within the frame of GEXcel’s second research theme, Deconstructing the Hegemony of Men and Masculinities. Most of the authors were GEXcel Visiting Scholars spending varying periods of time at Linköping University to work on their projects between January and June 2009. All the Scholars participated in the GEXcel Conference ‘Men and Masculinities, Moving On! Embodiments, Virtualities, Transnationalisations’ held on 27th – 29th April, 2009. In addition, two presentations from the Conference are included. Most of the conference presentations were published in GEXcel Work-in-Progress Report VI. Some of these presentations were also given at the GEXcel Symposium ‘Men/masculinities, Transnational, Spatial, Virtual: Hegemony, Power and Deconstruction’, held on 5th May, 2009 (see Appendix). This volume is of a work-in-progress character, and thus the texts presented here are to be elaborated further. The reader should also be aware that, as this is a report of working papers, some minor editorial modifications have been made to some papers, but the language of those contributed by non-native speakers of English has not been specifically revised. We thank Alp Biricik, Berit Starkman and Kjerstin Andersson for all their assistance in the arrangements for Theme 2, and Tomas Hägg for his care with the printing of the text.
