To consider Lean a management system and the willingness of management to practicethe desired approach is often described as central for Lean development. Also, Toyota, a companyoften linked to the Lean concept, is regularly described as a learning organization; its success saidto be closely linked to its ability to generate and manage organizational learning, which emphasizessocial practice as the way to learn and develop. This paper, based on an explorative case studyevaluates a team-based management approach for Lean development based on requirements fororganizational learning. Results show that such an approach facilitates Lean development bycontributing to a system perspective and managerial system understanding. Target setting andtarget breakdown routines are important to facilitate employee involvement in target achievementand continuous improvement.
