Elisofons möte med Jean Sibelius : nationalism och jazz

• Artikeln diskuterar mötet mellan Jean Sibelius och den amerikanske fotografen Eliot Elisofon den 9 oktober 1944 på Ainola och mera i detalj omständigheterna kring hur två av Elisofons fotografier kom till. De två bilderna av Sibelius på en bänk vid en stenmur är delar i en berättelse om det stora lilla landet med sin skörhet och sårbarhet.

• This article discusses the meeting of Jean Sibelius and Eliot Elisofon on 9 October 1944 at Ainola, the Finnish residence of the maestro. The focus of the article is two photographs and the history of their making. They depict Sibelius sitting on a bench,  but more importantly, the differences of viewpoints that they are imbricated with. One simulates masculinity and self-sustained power, the national myth of Finland emerging out of the wars as independent, but hurt; the other the counterparts of these metaphors, vulnerability and decay.
