  • A New Structure Type of the Ternary Sulfide Eu1.3Nb1.9S5
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Solid State Chemistry. - : Elsevier. - 1095-726X .- 0022-4596. ; 164:2, s. 345-353
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structure model for the Eu1.3Nb1.9S5 compound is determined based on high-resolution electron microscopy evidence. This compound crystallizes in a hexagonal unit cell with a=8.8732(8) Å and c=23.45(1) Å. Its structure is built up as an alternating sequence of trigonal-prismatic NbS2 layers of formula [Nb7S14] and [Nb(Eu3S4)2] slabs along the c-direction. In the [Nb(Eu3S4)2] block the stacking of two close-packed (Eu3S4) layers creates octahedral interstices formed by S atoms; these cavities are occupied by Nb cations. The model is compared with structures of other Eu-containing niobium sulfides, such as Eu0.167NbS2 and the misfit compound [(EuS)1.5]1.15NbS2.

  • Exposure of Swedish adolescents to elements, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and rapidly excreted substances-The Riksmaten adolescents 2016-17 national survey
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International journal of hygiene and environmental health. - : Elsevier. - 1438-4639 .- 1618-131X. ; 251
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adolescence is a period of significant physiological changes, and likely a sensitive window to chemical exposure. Few nation-wide population-based studies of chemical body burdens in adolescents have been published. In the national dietary survey Riksmaten Adolescents (RMA) 2016-17, over 13 chemical substance groups, including elements, chlorinated/brominated/fluorinated persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were analysed in blood, and in urine metabolites of phthalates/phthalate alternatives, phosphorous flame retardants, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and pesticides, along with bisphenols and biocide/preservative/antioxidant/UV filter substances (N = 1082, ages 11-21). The aim was to characterize the body burdens in a representative population of adolescents in Sweden, and to compare results with human biomonitoring guidance values (HBM-GVs). Cluster analyses and Spearman's rank order correlations suggested that concentrations of substances with known common exposure sources and similar toxicokinetics formed obvious clusters and showed moderate to very strong correlations (r & GE; 0.4). No clusters were formed between substances from different matrices. Geometric mean (GM) concentrations of the substances were generally less than 3-fold different from those observed among adolescents in NHANES (USA 2015-16) and GerES V (Germany 2014-17). Notable exceptions were brominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) with >20-fold lower GM concentrations, and the biocide triclosan and ultraviolet (UV) filter benzophenone-3 with >15-fold lower mean concentrations in RMA compared to NHANES. Exceedance of the most conservative HBM-GVs were observed for aluminium (Al, 26% of subjects), perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS, 19%), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA, 12%), lead (Pb, 12%), MBP (dibutyl phthalate metabolite, 4.8%), hexachlorobenzene (HCB, 3.1%) and 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (PBA, pyrethroid metabolite, 2.2%). Males showed a higher proportion of exceedances than females for Pb, HCB and PFOS; otherwise no gender-related differences in exceedances were observed. A higher proportion of males than females had a Hazard Index (HI) of substances with liver and kidney toxicity and neurotoxicity >1. Industrialized countries with similarly high standards of living, with some exceptions, show comparable average body burdens of a variety of toxic chemicals among adolescents from the general population. The exceedances of HBM-GVs and HIs strongly suggests that further efforts to limit chemical exposure are warranted.

  • A search for new resonances in multiple final states with a high transverse momentum Z boson in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Nature. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2023:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A generic search for resonances is performed with events containing a Z boson with transverse momentum greater than 100 GeV, decaying into e + e − or μ + μ −. The analysed data collected with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb −1. Two invariant mass distributions are examined for a localised excess relative to the expected Standard Model background in six independent event categories (and their inclusive sum) to increase the sensitivity. No significant excess is observed. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are derived for two cases: a model-independent interpretation of Gaussian-shaped resonances with the mass width between 3% and 10% of the resonance mass, and a specific heavy vector triplet model with the decay mode W′ → ZW → ℓℓqq. • People and water: Exploring the social-ecological condition of watersheds of the United States
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Elementa. - : University of California Press. - 2325-1026. ; 5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A recent paradigm shift from purely biophysical towards social-ecological assessment of watersheds has been proposed to understand, monitor, and manipulate the myriad interactions between human well-being and the ecosystem services that watersheds provide. However, large-scale, quantitative studies in this endeavour remain limited. We utilised two newly developed ‘big-data’ sets—the Index of Watershed Integrity (IWI) and the Human Well-Being Index (HWBI)—to explore the social-ecological condition of watersheds throughout the conterminous U.S., and identified environmental and socio-economic influences on watershed integrity and human well-being. Mean county IWI was highly associated with ecoregion, industry-dependence, and state, in a spatially-explicit regression model (R2 = 0.77, P < 0.001), whereas HWBI was not (R2 = 0.31, P < 0.001). HWBI is likely influenced by factors not explored here, such as governance structure and formal and informal organisations and institutions. ‘Win-win’ situations in which both IWI and HWBI were above the 75th percentile were observed in much of Utah, Colorado, and New Hampshire, and lessons from governance that has resulted in desirable outcomes might be learnt from here. Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia, along with large parts of the desert southwest, had intact watersheds but low HWBI, representing areas worthy of further investigation of how ecosystem services might be utilised to improve well-being. The Temperate Prairies and Central USA Plains had widespread areas of low IWI but high HWBI, likely a result of historic exploitation of watershed resources to improve well-being, particularly in farming-dependent counties. The lower Mississippi Valley had low IWI and HWBI, which is likely related to historical (temporal) and upstream (spatial) impacts on both watershed integrity and well-being. The results emphasise the importance of considering spatial and temporal trade-offs when utilising the ecosystem services provided by watersheds to improve human well-being.

  • Improved Microstrip Filters Using PMC Packaging by Lid of Nails
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology. - 2156-3985 .- 2156-3950. ; 2:7, s. 1075-1084
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper shows that microstrip filters perform like textbook examples when packaged with perfect magnetic conductor (PMC). A PMC is made as a pin surface or lid of nails, and this is used to package a microstrip parallel coupled line bandpass filter. Our measurements confirm that parallel plate, cavity modes, and radiation are suppressed. This paper also includes a study of the reasons for a frequency shift between the ideal PMC packaged case and the realized case.
