  • Vardagens kyrka: Gustaf Wingrens kyrkosyn och folkkyrkans framtid. Summary: A Church for Every Day: The Ecclesiology of Gustaf Wingren and the Future of the National Church (the "Folk Church")
  • 2001
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis explores the ecclesiology of the Swedish theologian Gustaf Wingren and discusses the future of the "folk church". Three questions What, Who and Where is the Church? sustain the structure of this investigation. Wingren reflected on issues related to the openness and the identity of the church. His main concern was the interpretation the gospel as the liberating message to the guilt-ridden. For Wingren, the church is neither an institution, nor a communion of true believers. The gospel and the sacraments constitute the church. Wingren stressed the role of Christ's human nature. His main concern was to construct an ecclesiology appropriate to everyday life. Wingren asserts that the church must never be allowed to regard itself as a distinct community because the doctrine of creation recognises the presence of God everywhere and the gospel has a universal scope. There has been a broad agreement throughout the Church of Sweden that the church, even after disestablishment, ought to continue as a "folk church", but Swedish ecclesiology has also offered criticism of the "folk church" idea. The alternative advocated instead is the "communion-orientated" model. Recent criticism has found support in the trinitarian ecclesiology of communion. Developing models for the proper exercise of the priesthood of all believers, and for discovering ways to proclaim the gospel to everyone rather than forming tightly knit communities seem to be the most urgent task for an ecclesiology, based on the idea of the "folk church". Wingrens occupation with the Lutheran doctrine of vocation made it possible for him to concentrate on everyday life and to use the pattern of baptism to interpret the daily work. He applies the notion of justification by faith alone as a measuring rod for modern society. This enables him to offer a critical view of while avoiding the trap of moralism. A "folk church" can be regarded as nothing but the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. Apart from in its social structure, the "folk church" does not differ in essence from other manifestations of the church. Provided the emphasis is not exclusively laid on the faith of its members, it would seem that there is some possibility for the "folk church" to survive. The church as an institution supporting its members may have a mission in the 21st century.

  • A biosensor for the analysis of acetonitrile
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Biosensors & Bioelectronics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-4235 .- 0956-5663. ; 19:7, s. 721-726
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A biosensor for monitoring acetonitrile was constructed. A mixed culture was taken from a degradation reactor and mounted on top of a Clark electrode. The amperometric biosensor was placed in a flow-through cell and integrated into a flow injection system. The metabolic response in terms of oxygen consumption was well correlated to the concentration of acetonitrile in standard solutions. However, when the reaction products, acetic acid and ammonia, were also present, the response was erratic, due to the additional metabolic reaction on acetate. By introducing a hydrophobic barrier it was possible to eliminate the negative influence of these charged products and thus to improve the operational selectivity of the sensor. The biosensor showed good stability for analysis during at least 6 days and future work will focus on using it for monitoring and control of degradation processes. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. • Microbial degradation of acetonitrile using a suspended-carrier biofilm process
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Biotechnology Letters. - 1573-6776. ; 24:4, s. 287-291
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A microbial process for the destruction of acetonitrile has been developed. Suitable microorganisms were enriched from activated sludge by cultivation with a high selection pressure when acetonitrile was the sole source of carbon and nitrogen. The process is based on cultivating the microorganisms as a biofilm on plastic carriers. These are utilised in a stirred-tank reactor with continuous feeding of 40-150 mM acetonitrile and an outlet for spent medium. The observed efficiency in the conversion process was from 53-100%, depending on the organic load. To improve the capacity and reliability of the process, a two-step process was developed with two stirred-tank reactors coupled in series. With such an arrangement, conversion efficiencies from 92-100% were achieved when the organic load was 2 g acetonitrile l(-1) d(-1) in the first reactor.

  • Common cancer-related symptoms among GP patients - Opportunistic screening in primary health care
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care. - 0281-3432 .- 1502-7724. ; 19:3, s. 199-203
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective-To study the occurrence of symptoms related to the five most common forms of cancer among patients regularly visiting primary care. To estimate the proportion of symptoms needing GP examination, and the number of tumours thus diagnosed. Design-Patients with some form of non-malignant chronic disease received a letter with information about cancer-related symptoms along with an invitation to regular check-up. The letter described the most common symptoms of breast, colorectal, lung, prostate and skin cancers. Setting-12 health centres in Kalmar County, Sweden. Subjects-5200 patients aged over 40 years. Results-One patient in 13 reported cancer-related symptoms to the GP. Women reported more symptoms than men, and almost half of them had had symptoms at previous check-ups. The GP was able to explain 7 out of 10 patients' symptoms directly. When other symptoms were examined, 8 cancers were diagnosed as well as 6 pre-malignant tumours, corresponding to 3 tumour diagnoses per 1000 check-ups. Conclusion-While attending regular check-ups, patients may not report symptoms which cause anxiety and sometimes indicate serious diseases. It is possible to widen the perspective and link both primary and secondary prevention of certain cancers to the check-up.

  • Ruthenium-based dimensionally stable anode in chlorate electrolysis - Effects of electrolyte composition on the anode potential
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Electrochemical Society. - : The Electrochemical Society. - 0013-4651 .- 1945-7111. ; 150:1, s. D6-D12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work the anodic reactions taking place on a dimensionally stable anode (DSA) in chlorate electrolyte have been investigated. Rotating disk electrodes were made from commercial RuO2-catalyzed DSAs and studied in steady-state polarization measurements, mainly IR-corrected polarization curves. Effects of varying pH and electrolyte concentrations of chloride, chlorate, chromium(VI), hypochlorite (ClO- + ClOH) as well as mass transport were studied. The kinetics for the chlorine evolution reaction, with a Tafel slope of 40 mV/decade of current, was not dependent on pH in the region 2-8, at potentials lower than 1.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The slope of the polarization curves increased at about 1.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl, a pH-dependent bend not due to mass-transport limitations in the electrolyte. At a pH of 6.5, typical for the chlorate process, oxygen evolution is an important side reaction favored by the dichromate buffer and by increased mass transport, both keeping down the pH at the anode. In the chlorine evolution region the potentials increased when adding Cr(VI) to the electrolyte, whereas no major effect was seen from additions of NaClO. (C) 2002 The Electrochemical Society.
