  • Declarative-knowledge-based reconfiguration of automation systems using a blackboard architecture
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Eleventh Scandinavian Conference on Artificial Intelligence. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 9781607507536 - 9781607507543 ; 227, s. 163-172
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article describes results of the work on knowledge representation techniques chosen for use in the European project SIARAS (Skill-Based Inspection and Assembly for Reconfigurable Automation Systems). Its goal was to create intelligent support system for reconfiguration and adaptation of robot-based manufacturing cells. Declarative knowledge is represented first of all in an ontology expressed in OWL, for a generic taxonomical reasoning, and in a number of special-purpose reasoning modules, specific for the application domain. The domain/dependent modules are organized in a blackboard-like architecture.

  • Information modelling and knowledge bases XVI
  • 2005
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Modelling of information is necessary in developing information systems. Information is acquired from many sources, by using various methods and tools. It must be recognized, conceptualized, and conceptually organized efficiently so that users can easily understand and use it. Modelling is needed to understand, explain, organize, predict and reason on information. It also helps to master the role and functions of components of information systems. Modelling can be performed with many different purposes in mind, at different levels, and by using different notions and different background theories. It can be made by emphasizing users' conceptual understanding of information on a domain level, on an algorithmic level, or on representation levels. On each level, the objects and structures used on them are different, and different rules govern the behavior on them. Therefore the notions, rules, theories, languages and methods for modelling on different levels are also different. It will be useful if we can develop theories and methodologies for modelling, to be used in different situations, because databases, knowledge bases, and repositories in knowledge management systems, developed on the basis of models and used to technically store information, are growing day by day. In this publication, the interest is focused on modelling of information and one of the central topics is modelling of time. Scientific and technical papers of high quality are brought together in this book.

  • Stratified composition of web services
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose an automatic service composition methodology where, three levels of composition knowledge are distinguished: user level, logical level and implementation level knowledge. We use a knowledge-based software development environment CoCoViLa that enables composition throughout these three levels. A motivation for this approach is a need to overcome the complexity of service composition on very large sets of atomic services we are dealing with in our application domain. The domain concerns federated governmental information systems.

  • Thirteenth Scandinavian Conference on Artificial Intelligence : SCAI 2015
  • 2015
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence (AI) has featured widely in the news recently. It is vital to the continued development of computer science and informatics, and is indispensable for the effective functioning of a multitude of systems in fields such as medicine, economics, linguistics, philosophy, psychology and logical analysis, as well as industry. This book presents the proceedings of the 13th Scandinavian Conference on Artificial Intelligence (SCAI 2015), held in Halmstad, Sweden, in November 2015. SCAI is the main biennial conference for the AI research communities of Scandinavia, but also attracts the attendance of a wide range of international participants. The book features 17 accepted papers from the conference as well as extended abstracts describing the work of six Ph.D. students who presented their research-in-progress to a panel of experts in the doctoral symposium which forms part of the conference. A wide range of topics are covered, including machine learning, data mining, logical reasoning, robotics and planning, and the papers included here focus on both the theory and practical applications of AI.The book will be of interest to all those wishing to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of AI. © 2015 The authors and IOS Press.

  • Formal ontology in information systems : Proceedings of the 13th International Conference (FOIS 2023)
  • 2023
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • FOIS is the flagship conference of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications, a non-profit organization which promotes interdisciplinary research and international collaboration at the intersection of philosophical ontology, linguistics, logic, cognitive science, and computer science. This book presents the papers delivered at FOIS 2023, the 13th edition of the Formal Ontology in Information Systems conference. The event was held as a sequentially-hybrid event, face-to-face in Sherbrooke, Canada, from 17 to 20 July 2023, and online from 18 to 20 September 2023. In total, 62 articles from 19 different countries were submitted, out of which 25 were accepted for inclusion in the conference and for publication; corresponding to an acceptance rate of 40 percent. The contributions are separated into the book’s three sections: (1) Foundational ontological issues; (2) Methodological issues around the development, alignment, verification and use of ontologies; and (3) Domain ontologies and ontology-based applications. In these sections, ontological aspects from a wide variety of fields are covered, primarily from various engineering domains including cybersecurity, manufacturing, petroleum engineering, and robotics, but also extending to the humanities, social sciences, medicine, and dentistry. A noticeable trend among the contributions in this edition of the conference is the recognition that improving the tools to analyze, align, and improve ontologies is of paramount importance in continuing to advance the field of formal ontology. The book will be of interest to all formal and applied ontology researchers, and to those who use formal ontologies and information systems as part of their work.
