  • Rehabilitating some early heretics : The rhetoric of heresy and christian diversity in the second century
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses. Louvain Journal of Theology and Canon Law. - Leuven : Peeters Publishers. - 0013-9513 .- 1783-1423. ; 98:2, s. 313-330
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article examines the issue of orthodoxy and heresy in second century Christianity. Through examination of the examples of Valentinus, Marcion, Montanus, and the movements connected to their heritage in later centuries, the nature of the relationship between these figures and other contemporary Christians is discerned. It is concluded that these three examples of alleged heretics in the second century likely never separated from the larger church during their lifetime. Rather, the condemnations of them often stem from conflicts with their alleged disciples later in time These teachers were simply part of the lively theological debate of the diverse second century church. The division between orthodoxy and heresy in the church fathers should thus be viewed as a social construction rather than an apt description of the situation.

  • Anastasius of Sinai and His Participation in the Monothelite Controversy
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses. - 0013-9513 .- 1783-1423. ; 95:3, s. 505-527
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anastasius of Sinai was one of the most creative theologians in the period when Late Antiquity was transforming to the Middle Ages. His passionate rhetoric targeted the Christological unorthodoxies of his time, primarily Monenergism and Monothelitism. In his polemics against these doctrines, Anastasius creatively elaborated on the arguments of his predecessors. He developed a complex, and sometimes surprising, taxonomy of Christ’s activities and volitions. This taxonomy included mixed human-divine, pure divine, and pure human energeiai and wills, which, to Anastasius, proved duality of Jesus Christ.

  • Two Men on a Dining Couch : Luke 17,34 as a Meal Scene
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses. Louvain Journal of Theology and Canon Law. - Leuven : Peeters Publishers. - 0013-9513 .- 1783-1423. ; 99:1, s. 113-129
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Jesus of Luke often participates in banquets and talks about meals in his speeches. Luke 17,34, we suggest, is one such example of the latter, a link that becomes evident when compared to its parallel, Gos. Thom. 61.1, where Jesus speaks of two men reclining on one dining couch. Through this insight, we argue that Luke 17,34 refers to a Eucharistic banquet of an early Christian group, suggesting that the division into two at the eschatological judgment applies even to those who celebrate the Eucharist together.

  • Integrated MEMS-tunable VCSELs with high modulation bandwidth
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Electronics Letters. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 1350-911X .- 0013-5194. ; 47:13, s. 764-756
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The modulation bandwidth of micromachined tunable VCSELs is typically limited by the parasitic capacitance associated with the large mesa platform for the movable mirror. Presented is a simple technology for wafer-scale integration of tunable VCSELs with low mesa capacitance and high modulation bandwidth. Small signal measurements show a 3dB bandwidth of up to 6 GHz over a tuning range of 18 nm. Digital modulation is demonstrated with error-free data transmission at 5 Gbit/s and eye diagrams at 10 Gbit/s.
