  • Charge order at high temperature in cuprate superconductors
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - 1347-4073 .- 0031-9015. ; 90:11
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The presence of different electronic orders other than superconductivity populating the phase diagram of cuprates suggests that they might be the key to disclose the mysteries of this class of materials. In particular charge order in the form of charge density waves (CDW), i.e., the incommensurate modulation of electron density in the CuO2 planes, is ubiquitous across different families and presents a clear interplay with superconductivity. Until recently, CDW had been found to be confined inside a rather small region of the phase diagram, below the pseudogap temperature and the optimal doping. This occurrence might shed doubts on the possibility that such “low temperature phenomenon” actually rules the properties of cuprates either in the normal or in the superconducting states. However, recent resonant X-ray scattering (RXS) experiments are overturning this paradigm. It results that very short-ranged charge modulations permeate a much wider region of the phase diagram, coexisting with CDW at lower temperatures and persisting up to temperatures well above the pseudogap opening. Here we review the characteristics of these high temperature charge modulations, which are present in several cuprate families, with similarities and differences. A particular emphasis is put on their dynamical character and on their coupling to lattice and magnetic excitations, properties that can be determined with high resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS).

  • Two years of flight of the Pamela experiment : Results and perspectives
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - 0031-9015 .- 1347-4073. ; 78:Suppl. A, s. 35-40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PAMELA is a satellite borne experiment designed to study with great accuracy cosmic rays of galactic, solar, and trapped nature in a wide energy range (protons: 80 MeV-700 GeV, electrons 50 MeV-400 GeV). Main objective is the study of the antimatter component: antiprotons (80 MeV-190 GeV), positrons (50 MeV-270 GeV) and search for antinuclei with a precision of the order of 10~8). The experiment, housed on board the Russian Resurs-DKl satellite, was launched on June, 15th 2006 in a 350 x 600 km orbit with an inclination of 70 degrees. In this work we describe the scientific objectives and the performance of PAMELA in its first two years of operation. Data on protons of trapped, secondary and galactic nature - as well as measurements of the December 13th 2006 Solar Particle Event - are also provided.

  • Perturbative large deviation analysis of non-equilibrium dynamics
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - : Physical society of Japan. - 0031-9015 .- 1347-4073. ; 83:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Macroscopic fluctuation theory has shown that a wide class of non-equilibrium stochastic dynamical systems obey a large deviation principle, but except for a few one-dimensional examples these large deviation principles are in general not known in closed form. We consider the problem of constructing successive approximations to an (unknown) large deviation functional and show that the non-equilibrium probability distribution the takes a Gibbs-Boltzmann form with a set of auxiliary (non-physical) energy functions. The expectation values of these auxiliary energy functions and their conjugate quantities satisfy a closed system of equations which can imply a considerable reduction of dimensionality of the dynamics. We show that the accuracy of the approximations can be tested self-consistently without solving the full non- equilibrium equations. We test the general procedure on the simple model problem of a relaxing 1D Ising chain.

  • μ+SR Study of K2Cr8O16 Under Hydrostatic Pressure
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - : Physical Society of Japan. - 0031-9015 .- 1347-4073.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, the magnetic ground state of the hollandite type material K2Cr8O16 was tuned by externally applied pressure and investigated using µ+SR method in Zero-field (ZF) and weak-transversefield (wTF) configurations. As a result, the obtained magnetic transition temperature for the measuredpressures differs notably from magnetization measurements. Moreover, both wTF and ZF data reveala transition between two different magnetically ordered states at low temperatures for higher pressures. Further theoretical and experimental studies are currently being planned in order to elucidatethe detailed nature of the magnetically ordered phase.

  • Towards ab initio Calculations with the Dynamical Vertex Approximation
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - : PHYSICAL SOC JAPAN. - 0031-9015 .- 1347-4073. ; 87:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • While key effects of the many-body problem-such as Kondo and Mott physics-can be understood in terms of onsite correlations, non-local fluctuations of charge, spin, and pairing amplitudes are at the heart of the most fascinating and unresolved phenomena in condensed matter physics. Here, we review recent progress in diagrammatic extensions to dynamical mean-field theory for ab initio materials calculations. We first recapitulate the quantum field theoretical background behind the two-particle vertex. Next we discuss latest algorithmic advances in quantum Monte Carlo simulations for calculating such two-particle quantities using worm sampling and vertex asymptotics, before giving an introduction to the ab initio dynamical vertex approximation (AbinitioDGA). Finally, we highlight the potential of AbinitioDGA by detailing results for the prototypical correlated metal SrVO3.

  • Signatures of Currency Vertices
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Physical Society of Japan. - 0031-9015 .- 1347-4073. ; 78:3, s. 034801-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many real-world networks have broad degree distributions. For some systems, this means that the functional of the vertices is also broadly distributed, in other cases the vertices are equally significant, but in different ways. One example of the latter case is metabolic networks, where the high-degree vertices the currency metabolites-supply the molecular groups to the low-degree metabolites, and the latter are responsible for the higher-order biological function, Of Vital importance to the organism. In this paper, we propose a generalization of currency metabolites to currency vertices. We investigate the network structural characteristics of such systems, both in model networks and in sonic empirical systems. fit addition to metabolic networks, we find that a network of music collaborations and a network of e-mail exchange could be described by a division of the vertices into currency vertices and others.
