  • Teacher education towards educational inclusion from the perspective of master’s and doctoral research
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: DELTA. - : FapUNIFESP (SciELO). - 0102-4450 .- 1678-460X. ; 38:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • nclusive education requires teacher education initiatives that enable pedagogical practices committed to students’ singularities. This article aims to systematize contributions to teacher education towards educational inclusion provided by research conducted at the master’s and doctoral levels in Education. We selected studies published from 2016 to 2019 in the Catalogue of Theses and Dissertations maintained by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and we used the following descriptors: “inclusão escolar” (educational inclusion), “formação docente” (teacher education), “Ensino Fundamental” (elementary and middle school). With regard to our theoretical foundations, our study builds on the work of authors such as Campos (2009), Marques et al. (2020), Nóvoa (1999, 2017, 2019) and Zwierewicz et al. (2020). Methodologically, it is based on bibliographic review with a qualitative approach. Results show that teacher education is one of the pillars to build educational inclusion; creativity and collaborative work are critical; teachers’ work environment should allow them to re-signify reality as they re-signify themselves, mobilized by reflections on their own pedagogical practices and by recognition for initiatives committed to educational inclusion principles.

  • A phonetic study of Zootopia characters’ voices inBrazilian Portuguese dubbing : the role of stereotypes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: DELTA. - 0102-4450 .- 1678-460X. ; 36:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work comprises an experimental investigation approach of expressive speech that integrates methodological procedures of perceptual and acoustic analyses. As the object of this work, we have focused on voice quality and vocal dynamics. Speech samples from the four main personality-distinct characters in the animated feature film “Zootopia” dubbed by Brazilian voice actors have been analysed. Due to the expressive function of voice quality, we have posed the following question: what types of voice quality and vocal dynamics settings were used by the voice actors in the Brazilian dubbing of “Zootopia” to compose the vocal profiles of the characters? Perceptual evaluation of the 54 speech stimuli was performed using the Vocal Profile Analysis protocol (Laver & Mackenzie Beck, 2007). Acoustic measures were automatically extracted using the Expression Evaluator script (Barbosa, 2008) for PRAAT. The profiles for each of the four characters were composed based on the psychological traits described in the film script. The results of the acoustic analysis, the perceptual analysis of voice quality and vocal dynamics settings were correlated using the MFA (Multiple Factor Analysis) method in the R environment based on 40 variables (quantitative and qualitative) and it turned out that the speech stimuli were distributed in 6 clusters according to the variables analysed. The quantitative variables that presented the highest correlation percentage were: Standard Deviation of f0 Derivative, Standard Deviation of Spectral Tilt, f0 Median. The qualitative variables that presented the highest correlation percentage were: Lowered Larynx, Lip Rounding, Breathy Voice and Minimised Pitch Range. The research has presented evidence in favor of the symbolic use of phonic matter and contributions to the understanding of how vocal stereotypes are established.

  • Translanguaging practices in adult education for deaf migrants
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: DELTA. - 0102-4450 .- 1678-460X. ; 39:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the last decade, Sweden has received many deaf migrants with very diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds. When arriving in Sweden, they are expected to learn Swedish Sign Language (STS) and Swedish. For this study, we have used data from project Mulder, a four-year research project that aims to generate knowledge about deaf migrants' multilingual situation in Sweden. In this article, we describe how adult education for deaf migrants is organised in Sweden and examine how translanguaging practices are formed there. We found that translanguaging is a natural and common part of the multilingual classrooms, but also that the opportunities to translanguage depend highly on the individual's repertoires and whether particular individuals have one or more languages in common or have a lingua franca. We also found that translanguaging is not always helpful in learning contexts if the teachers are not conscious and insightful when they mix languages.

  • Cross-cultural and cross-linguistic perception of authentic emotions through speech: An acoustic-phonetic study with Brazilian and Swedish listeners
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: DELTA: Documentação de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada. - : FapUNIFESP (SciELO). - 0102-4450. ; 32:2, s. 449-480
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study was conducted to investigate whether the listeners' culture and mother language influence the perception of emotions through speech and which acoustic cues listeners use in this process. Swedish and Brazilian listeners were presented with authentic emotional speech samples of Brazilian Portuguese and Swedish. They judged on 5-point Likert scales the expression of basic emotions as described by eight adjectives in the utterances in Brazilian Portuguese and the expression of five emotional dimensions in the utterances in Swedish. The PCA technique revealed that two components explain more than 94% of the variance of the judges' responses in both experiments. These components were predicted through multiple linear regressions from twelve acoustic parameters automatically computed from the utterances. The results point to a similar perception of the emotions between both cultures.
