Completely bounded bimodule maps and spectral synthesis

- We initiate the study of the completely bounded multipliers of the Haagerup tensor product A(G) circle times(h) A(G) of two copies of the Fourier algebra A(G) of a locally compact group G. If E is a closed subset of G we let E# = {(s, t) : st. E} and show that if E# is a set of spectral synthesis for A(G) circle times(h) A(G) then E is a set of local spectral synthesis for A(G). Conversely, we prove that if E is a set of spectral synthesis for A(G) and G is a Moore group then E# is a set of spectral synthesis for A(G)circle times(h) A(G). Using the natural identification of the space of all completely bounded weak* continuous VN(G)' bimodule maps with the dual of A(G)circle times(h) A(G), we show that, in the case G is weakly amenable, such a map leaves the multiplication algebra of L-infinity(G) invariant if and only if its support is contained in the antidiagonal of G.

- The linear orbit of a plane curve of degree d is its orbit in p(d(d+3)/2) under the natural action of PGL(3). We classify curves with positive dimensional stabilizer, and we compute the degree of the closure of the linear orbits of curves supported on unions of lines. Together with the results of [3], this encompasses the enumerative geometry of all plane curves with small linear orbit. This information will serve elsewhere as an ingredient in the computation of the degree of the orbit closure of an arbitrary plane curve.

- Let G be a connected semisimple real-rank one Lie group with finite center. We consider intertwining operators on tensor products of spherical principal series representations of G. This allows us to construct an invariant trilinear form K. indexed by a complex multiparameter (v)under bar = (v1, v2, v3) and defined on the space of smooth functions on the product of three spheres in F-n, where F is either R, C, H, or O with n = 2. We then study the analytic continuation of the trilinear form with respect to (v1, v2, v3), where we locate the hyperplanes containing the poles. Using a result due to Johnson and Wallach on the so-called "partial intertwining operator", we obtain an expression for the generalized Bernstein-Reznikov integral K-(v) under bar (1 circle times 1 circle times 1) in terms of hypergeometric functions.

Bergman kernels and equilibrium measures for polarized pseudoconcave domains

- Let X be a domain in a closed polarized complex manifold (Y, L), where L is a (semi-) positive line bundle over Y. Any given Hermitian metric on L induces by restriction to X a Hilbert space structure on the space of global holomorphic sections on Y with values in the k-th tensor power of L (also using a volume form omega(n) on X). In this paper the leading large k asymptotics for the corresponding Bergman kernels and metrics are obtained in the case when X is a pseudo-concave domain with smooth boundary (under a certain compatibility assumption). The asymptotics are expressed in terms of the curvature of L and the boundary of X. The convergence of the Bergman metrics is obtained in a more general setting where (X, omega(n)) is replaced by any measure satisfying a Bernstein-Markov property. As an application the (generalized) equilibrium measure of the polarized pseudo-concave domain X is computed explicitly. Applications to the zero and mass distribution of random holomorphic sections and the eigenvalue distribution of Toeplitz operators will be described elsewhere.

Linear half-space problems in kinetic theory : Abstract formulation and regime transitions

- In this work, a general formulation, which is based on steady boundary layer problems for the Boltzmann equation, of a half-space problem is considered. The number of conditions on the indata at the interface needed to obtain well-posedness is investigated. The solutions will converge exponentially fast "far away" from the interface. For linearized kinetic half-space problems similar to the one of evaporation and condensation in kinetic theory, slowly varying modes might occur near regime transitions where the number of conditions needed to obtain well-posedness changes (corresponding to transition between evaporation and condensation, or subsonic and supersonic evaporation/condensation), preventing uniform exponential speed of convergence. However, those modes might be eliminated by imposing extra conditions on the indata at the interface. Flow velocities at the far end for which regime transitions occur are presented for Boltzmann equations: for monatomic and polyatomic single species and mixtures; as well as bosons and fermions.

- We study the number of equivalence classes of proper holomorphic embeddings of a Stein space X into C-n. In this paper we prove that if the automorphism. group of X is a Lie group and there exists a proper holomorphic embedding of X into C-n, 0 < dim X < n, then for any k >= 0 there exist uncountably many non-equivalent proper holomorphic embeddings Φ: X x C-k hooked right arrow C-n x C-k. For k = 0 all embeddings will be proved to satisfy the additional property of C-n\Φ)(X) being (n-dim X)-Eisenman hyperbolic. As a corollary we conclude that there are uncountably many non-equivalent proper holomorphic embeddings of C-k into C-n whenever 0 < k < n.

- In the proof of Theorem 3.7 of the original paper Internat. J. Math. 30(14) (2019) 1950078, 1–25, two inequalities are used that do not hold in general. In this note, we prove an extra propositions which allows us to give a proof of Theorem 3.7 without using the aforementioned inequalities. Hence, all the results in the original paper are valid. We have also posted a corrected version in the arXiv.
