  • Modeling uncertainty in buyer-seller cooperation
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 56:12, s. 961-970
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The realization of relationship marketing requires cooperative exchange between buyers and sellers. A key determinant of cooperative exchange is the uncertainty perceived by the cooperating parties. This study investigates how cooperation is affected by decision makers' perception of uncertainties in the environmental context, in relationships, and in decision-making routines. A sample of 135 branch managers from banks is used in a LISREL model. The results show that uncertainty regarding relationships and decision making has strong direct effects on buyer-seller cooperation. Relationship and decision making, in turn, are affected by contextual uncertainty. The results highlight the importance of internal resources in firms in facilitating cooperation between buyers and sellers.

  • Industrial marketing strategies and different national environments
  • 1985
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 13:6, s. 495-509
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article analyzes the marketing strategies of industrial suppliers in five Western European countries. The strategies are characterized in a quality dimension and a customer adaptation dimension. In the quality dimension the strategies are found to be related to characteristics of the industrial environment of the supplier country. In the adaptation dimension they are related to the cultural affinity with the customer country as perceived by industrial purchasers in these countries

  • From real world to mirror world representation
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 55:8, s. 647-654
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Offerings on the Net are assessed using two well-established perspectives on consumer buying behavior — a cognitive decision-making perspective and an emotional experience-seeking perspective. Three models of virtual representation are discussed — the mirror model, the synergy model, and the virtual model. These models, in combination with empirical illustrations of Swedish consumers' virtual buying behavior, indicate which aspects of a virtual representation the consumers perceive as crucial for participation in a new buying behavior and which aspects turn them off. Managerial implications of the assessment are also discussed and questions for future research are posed.

  • How useful are incubators for new entrepreneurs?
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 69:6, s. 2125-2129
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study examines profiles of incubator tenants who provide the most positive evaluations of the use of advisory services and support from incubators. The study presents an application of qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to a sample of 54 incubator tenants in Valencia, Spain. The study examines how entrepreneurs' age, gender, education and training, work experience, and family background affect the utility of advice and support from experts at the incubator. The results of the research inform that the incubator tenants who find the services of incubators most useful are young, have good studies, have professional experience, and have family experience.

  • Co-creation and critical factors for the development of an efficient public e-tourism system
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study identifies the factors that guide the adoption of a public e-tourism system resulting in value co-creation in the UAE. Integrating and comparing factors drawn from the third version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM3), the Technology-Task-Fit (TTF) theory, and push-to-use, an Analytic Hierarch Process (AHP) model was implemented with data collected using a structured questionnaire from purposively selected UAE e-tourism experts (N = 15) and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. The findings revealed that usefulness, convenience of use, and push-to-use were the most critical aspects for achieving an efficient public e-tourism system that allows for value co-creation in that order of ranking. The findings also suggest that computer self-efficiency is the most critical factor in effectively establishing an e-tourism system followed by government push-to-use. In conclusion, the findings demonstrate that usefulness and ease-of-use backed by computer self-efficiency, result demonstrability, and output quality are vital for the efficient adoption of a public e-tourism system resulting in value co-creation in the UAE.

  • Exploring communication practices in lean production
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 69:11, s. 4959-4963
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study examines the daily work practices at an organization that successfully incorporates lean production practices into the organizational culture, and reveals a pattern of practices used by managers in their daily work. This pattern of communication practices is consistent across the organization's manufacturing sites. Subsequent examination of archival qualitative data confirms the existence of the identified pattern of practices. An essential part of lean production is that participants are all involved in improvement activities. The collaborative nature of these activities highlights the importance of communication practices as a lubricant between managers and workers. The communication practices identified in this study appear consistently in strong lean production environments, while the opposite practices appear in weak lean production and traditional US-style environments.

  • Practice theory in a collaborative context
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 123, s. 415-422
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on the nature of dispersed and integrative practices (Schatzki, 1996) in collaborative work. Working in collaboration is becoming more common across organizations and a research topic across domains. We use the situation of changes in the use of collaboration to investigate the dispersed-integrative concept using in-depth interviews and observations in organizations employing the same high collaboration work method (Lean Production, LP).We show that it was the introduction of collaborative work that was followed by the binding of the dispersed practice with the integrative practice to form a new integrative practice containing the social component.  This result has implications for research and for practice. In general, it supports the importance of the practice theory lens in study of organizations as a generator of novel insight. It also moves practice theory forward by developing theory about changes in dispersed and integrative practices and their relation to each other.

  • Resource allocation and capital investment practice in Swedish local governments : A messy business
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 101, s. 897-905
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We examine capital investment practice for large infrastructure projects undertaken by local governments. Our study contributes to the existing literature by addressing the field theoretically from both decision- and process-based investment approaches and by using multiple research methods, both qualitative and quantitative, in search of empirical evidence of investment practice in Sweden. Our results confirm the large spread of financial and non-financial criteria used to evaluate new projects. Local governments that have adopted New Public Management largely use more sophisticated capital investment routines and methods. We contribute with added granularity to capital investment practices in local governments, characterized by diverse and sometimes conflicting decision rationales in terms of financial, operational, and political considerations. The investment practice reveals a complex, competitive, and "messy" picture with potential effects and consequences.

  • Trust and control in changing production environments
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 88:July, s. 527-534
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We examine the relationship between trust and control in four organizations implementing new production methods. Research on the trust-control relationship provides conflicting results. Some empirical studies show that the relationship between trust and control is substitutive, while some show that it is complementary (Kalkman and Waard, 2016).We identify three moderators of the trust-control relationship that lead to either a substitutive or a complementary result. The variables are: control source, control incidence and control information type. Additionally we find that the concept of trust becomes a matter for reflection by both managers and workers as they navigate new production methods. This result extends prior research by revealing connections that moderate the relationship between trust and control, and contribute to explaining the contradictory results in the literature.

  • Moving or doing? : Knowledge flow, problem solving, and change in industrial networks
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 60:1, s. 32-40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For decades, scholars have put forward the idea that change in industrial networks depends on the relationships and networks themselves. However, models are still lacking that conceptualize the heterogeneity of relationships and networks and that show how this heterogeneity actually affects change. This paper puts forward a model suggesting that network structure—in terms of an open or closed system—and relational embeddedness together affect the ways knowledge is gained, given knowledge flow and problem solving as two sources of knowledge. Moreover, the paper proposes that this effect influences the tacitness and novelty of the knowledge gained. Additionally, network structure and gained knowledge are postulated to have an impact on two changes, the establishment of relationships and the development of technology, which take place in industrial networks. The paper advances six propositions and concludes with implications for research and practice.
