  • New empirical formula for calculating (n, p) reaction cross-sections at 14.5 MeV neutrons
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - 0218-3013. ; 29:8
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An empirical formula to calculate the (n, p) reaction cross-sections for 14.5 MeV neutrons for 183 target nuclei in the range 44 ≤ A ≤ 212 is presented. Evaluated cross-section data from TENDL nuclear data library were used to test and benchmark the formula. In this new formula, the nonelastic cross-section term is replaced by the atomic number Z, while the asymmetry parameter-dependent exponential term has been retained. The calculated results are presented in comparison with the seven previously published formulae. We show that the new formula is significantly in better agreement with the measured values compared to previously published formulae.

  • Predictions for p + Pb Collisions at sN N = √5 TeV : Comparison with Data
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - 0218-3013. ; 25:9
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Predictions made in Albacete et al. [Int. J. Mod. Phys. E 22 (2013) 1330007] prior to the LHC p+Pb run at sNN = 5 TeV are compared to currently available data. Some predictions shown here have been updated by including the same experimental cuts as the data. Some additional predictions are also presented, especially for quarkonia, that were provided to the experiments before the data were made public but were too late for the original publication.

  • WIGNER-KIRKWOOD METHOD FOR MICROSCOPIC-MACROSCOPIC CALCULATION OF BINDING ENERGIES
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - 0218-3013. ; 19:4, s. 747-758
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose to use the semi-classical Wigner-Kirkwood (h) over bar expansion to calculate shell corrections for spherical and deformed nuclei. The expansion is carried out up to fourth order in (h) over bar. A systematic study of Wigner-Kirkwood averaged energies is presented as a function of the deformation degrees of freedom. The shell corrections, along with the pairing energies obtained by using the Lipkin-Nogami scheme are used in the microscopic-macroscopic approach to calculate binding energies. The macroscopic part is obtained from a liquid drop formula with six adjustable parameters. Considering a set of 367 spherical nuclei, the liquid drop parameters are adjusted to reproduce the experimental binding energies, which yields a rms deviation of 630 keV.

  • Structure of wobbling excitations in Lu-163
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - 0218-3013. ; 16:2, s. 634-642
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a many-particles plus rotor model, wobbling excitations built on top of a triaxial superdeformed band in Lu-163 are investigated. By extracting all parameters for the rotor from a mean field calculation a good correspondence with calculations based on the random-phase approximation is achieved.

  • Future prospects in neutrino physics
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Ltd. - 0218-3013. ; 30:09
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutrino physics has come a long way and made great strides in the past decades. We discuss the prospects of what more can be learned in this field in the forthcoming neutrino oscillation facilities. We will mostly focus on the potential of the long-baseline experiments and the atmospheric neutrino experiments. Sensitivity of these experiments to standard neutrino oscillation parameters will be presented. We will also discuss the prospects of new physics searches at these facilities.

  • Particle identification studies with an ALICE test TPC
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: International journal of modern physics. E, Nuclear physics. - 0218-3013. ; 16:7-8, s. 2457-2462
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a test TPC, consisting of the ALICE TPC field cage prototype in combination with the final ALICE TPC readout and electronics, the energy loss distribution and resolution were measured for identified protons. The measurements were compared to theoretical calculations and good quantitative agreement was found when detector effects were taken into account. The implications for particle identification are discussed.

  • Lifetime of 26S and a Limit for its 2p Decay Energy
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt. - 0218-3013 .- 1793-6608. ; 20:6, s. 1491-1508
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The unknown isotope (26)S, expected to decay by two-proton (2p) emission, was studied theoretically and searched experimentally. The structure of this nucleus was examined within the relativistic mean field (RMF) approach. A method for taking into account the many-body structure in the three-body decay calculations was developed. The results of the RMF calculations were used as an input for the three-cluster decay model optimized for the study of a possible 2p decay branch of this nucleus. The experimental search for (26)S was performed by fragmentation of a 50.3 A MeV (32)S beam. No events of a particles table (26)S or (25)P (a presumably proton-unstable subsystem of (26)S) were observed. Based on the obtained production systematics, an upper half-life limit of T(1/2) 640 keV for (26)S. Analogous limits for (25)P are found as T(1/2) 110 keV. In the case that the one-proton emission is the main branch of the (26)S decay, a limit Q(2p) > 230 keV would follow for this nucleus. According to these limits, it is likely that (26)S resides in the picosecond life time range

  • Nuclear Structure Addressed At GSI/RISING
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: International Journal Of Modern Physics E - Nuclear Physics. - 0218-3013. ; 18:4, s. 759-766
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nuclear structure spectroscopy studies at GSI recently gained increased momentum within a broad international community with the installation of the Rare Isotopes Spectroscopic INvestigation at GSI (RISING) project. A wide range of physical phenomena has been addressed by high-resolution in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy experiments with radioactive beams. Relativistic radioactive beams are implanted and their subsequent. and beta decay is investigated. Within this "stopped beam campaign" germanium detectors were arranged in a close geometry around the passive stopper or an array of DSSSD detectors. The exceptionally high gamma-ray efficiency of that configuration made it possible to identify decays of excited or ground states of nuclei which have not been observed before. The results discussed here include the astrophysically relevant shell structure of N=82 isotones, N=Z nuclei around Ni-54, and proton drip-line nuclei below Sn-100. The experimental data are compared to the results of large scale shell-model calculations using various sets of realistic residual two-body interaction.

  • Selection Rule for Electromagnetic Transitions in Nuclear Chiral Geometry
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - 0218-3013. ; 20:2, s. 373-379
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to find the selection rules that can be applied to the electromagnetic transitions when the chiral geometry is achieved, a model for a special configuration in triaxial odd-odd nuclei is constructed which exhibits degenerate chiral bands with a sizable rotation. A quantum number obtained from the invariance of the Hamiltonian is given and the selection rule for electromagnetic transition probabilities in chiral bands is derived in terms of this quantum number. Among the available candidates for chiral bands of odd-odd nuclei, in which the near degeneracy of two Delta I = 1 bands is observed, the measured electromagnetic properties of the two bands in Cs-128(55)73 and Cs-126(55)71 are consistent with the rules, while those of Pr-134(59)75 and La-132(57)75 are not.
