- This article illustrates how the bilingual electronic dictionary can function as a parallel corpus and as such provide a basis for various linguistic studies. The dictionary in question is the online multilingual Islex dictionary, here used as a bilingual Icelandic-Swedish dictionary. The generous access to the different information categories, encoded in the dictionary, makes the examples just as accessible as the traditional lexical entry, and target language units of different kinds are as easy to reach as the source language units. Here, all the occurrences of the Icelandic idiom koma í ljós and their translations are reviewed, and the semantic and syntactic properties of the idiom and their equivalents are briefly described as well as similarities and differences in the information structure in Icelandic vs. Swedish.

- This article approaches the field of contemporary Swedish dictionary making. By extension, the principal aim of the article is to discuss the future outlook of dictionaries and of lexicography as a whole in Sweden. Firstly, we describe the current state of affairs of lexicography in Sweden in terms of key participants – the institutional agents and financiers. Secondly, we recognize differences in standing (high/low) between various kinds of lexicography and lexicographical resources. On one hand, we find high status, scholarly and professionally produced monolingual dictionaries. On the other hand, we discern low status unsystematic, in some cases unreliable, web dictionaries that are often heavily dependent on user-generated content. In a concluding note, we dare to foresee some challenges concerning the future of Swedish lexicography.

- In the Swedish school curriculum it states that the school must impersonate as well as convey certain founding values for the Swedish society, such as individual freedom and integrity, equality, solidarity and understanding of cultural pluralism. This paper is about an ongoing research project on how social and cultural representations in educational materials contribute to impersonate these commitments with a focus on the use of names. Naming strategies have been highly neglected or treated in a simplified, unsystematic way in previous studies in the field. This project analyses the kinds of names that are used for people and places in educational materials, which kinds of referents are named as well as not named and how the use of names contributes to creating images of social and cultural identities. The data consists of educational materials within three school subjects (Swedish, social studies and mathematics) with a focus on contemporary as well as diachronic patterns. The analytical approach is influenced by critical as well as positive discourse analysis.
