  • Numerical Solution to H∞ Control of Multi-Delayed Systems via Operator Approach
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 5, s. 4227-4232
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A computational algorithm for the full information H∞ control problem for multi-delayed LTI systems is derived. The algorithm is based on a general operator approach in the spectral domain developed for finite-dimensional LTI plants. The simplicity of spectral operations and explicit formulas for computation make it possible to generalize it to infinite-dimensional plants. In the paper, a complete computational solution for such a plant with several delays in the output, control and disturbance is obtained and illustrated with a simple example

  • Analysis of least-squares state estimators for a harmonic oscillator
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Communications Society. - 0780366387 ; , s. 3819-3824
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The concept of least-squares observer is revisited. Robustness properties of this class of observers with respect to norm-bounded measurement noise are investigated and shown to be very much dependent on the operator chosen for the observer implementation. For the case of a harmonic oscillator, an explicit observer parameterization in terms of the implementation operator and the oscillator frequency is obtained, and observer's existence conditions are proven and analyzed

  • Asymptotic properties of Hammerstein model estimates
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - 0780366387
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper considers the estimation of Hammerstein models with input saturation. These models are characterised by a linear dynamical model acting on an input sequence which is affected by a hard saturation of unknown level. The main result of the paper lies in a specication of a set of sufficient conditions on the input sequence in order to ensure that a non-linear least-squares approach enjoys properties of consistency and asymptotic normality and furthermore, that an estimate of the parameter covariance matrix is also consistent. The set of assumptions is specied using the concept of near epoch dependence, which has been developed in the econometrics literature. Indeed, one purpose of this paper is to highlight the usefulness of this concept in the context of analysing estimation procedures for nonlinear dynamical systems.

  • On Data Preprocessing for Subspace Methods
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - Linköping : IEEE. - 0780366387 ; , s. 2403-2408
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In modern data analysis often the first step is to perform some data preprocessing, e.g. detrending or elimination of periodic components of known period length. This is normally done using least squares regression. Only afterwards black box models are estimated using either pseudo-maximum-likelihood methods, prediction error methods or subspace algorithms. In this paper it is shown, that for subspace methods this is essentially the same as including the corresponding input variables, e.g. a constant or a trend or a periodic component, as additional input variables. Here essentially means, that the estimates only dier through the choice of initial values.

  • Subspace Algorithm Cointegration Analysis - an Application to Interest Rate Data
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press. - 0780366387 ; , s. 146-151
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper the application of so called subspace methods for the specication and estimation of cointegrated systems is examined. This method, which is based on the state space representation, is suited for the analysis of general cointegrated systems of order one, i.e. is not limited to autoregressive models, as is e.g. Johansen's method. To assess the empirical usefulness of the method we apply it to perform a cointegration analysis of the US term structure of interest rates.

  • Classification of Electrocardiographic P-wave Morphology
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 2, s. 1804-1809
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The atrial activity of the human heart is normally visible in the ECG as a P-wave. In patients with intermittent atrial fibrilation, a different P-wave morphology can sometimes be seen, indicating atrial conduction defects. The purpose of this study was to develop a method to discriminate between such P-waves and normal ones. 20 recordings of each type were used in a classification which, based on impulse response analysis of the P-wave and linear discrimination between various parameters, produced a correct classification in 37 of the 40 recordings (sensitivity 95%, specificity 90%)

  • Feedback Scheduling of Control Tasks
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 5, s. 4871-4876
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The paper presents a feedback scheduling mechanism in the context of co-design of the scheduler and the control tasks. We are particularly interested in controllers where the execution time may change abruptly between different modes, such as in hybrid controllers. The proposed solution attempts to keep the CPU utilization at a high level, avoid overload, and distribute the computing resources evenly among the tasks. The feedback scheduler is implemented as a periodic or sporadic task that assigns sampling periods to the controllers based on execution-time measurements. The controllers may also communicate feedforward mode-change information to the scheduler. As an example, we consider hybrid control of a set of double-tank processes. The system is evaluated, from both scheduling and control performance perspectives, by co-simulation of controllers, scheduler, and tanks.

  • Constrained Iterative Learning Control of Liquid Slosh in an Industrial Packaging Machine
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 5, s. 4544-4549
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Considers the problem of moving a container with liquid without too much slosh in an industrial packaging machine, There is no measurement of the slosh available in the machine to use for control, it is however possible to measure the slosh in a testbed. The problem is to determine the shape of the open loop acceleration reference that is programmed in the motion control system that controls the movement of the containers. In the paper the acceleration reference is calculated using iterative learning control where the results of an experiment are used to refine the acceleration reference to be used in the next iteration

  • Iterative Optimal Control of Liquid Slosh in an Industrial Packaging Machine
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 4, s. 3427-3432
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Presents an iterative approach to optimal control when modeling errors are present. The problem considered is movement of open containers containing liquid in an industrial packaging machine. The goal is to move as fast as possible without too much slosh. There is no measurement of the slosh available in the machine, therefore open loop control via the acceleration reference is the only possibility to control the slosh. However it is possible to measure the slosh in an experimental testbed. This can be used to determine offline the acceleration reference. An algorithm for iterative optimal control is derived that uses experimental data to refine the solution of the optimal control problem

  • Hybrid Control Laws From Convex Dynamic Programming
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2000.. - 0780366387 ; 1, s. 472-477
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In a previous paper, we showed how classical ideas for dynamicprogramming in discrete networks can be adapted to hybrid systems. The approach is based on discretization of the continuous Bellman inequality which gives a lower bound on the optimal cost. The lower bound is maximized by linear programming to get an approximation of the optimal solution. In this paper, we apply ideas from infinite-dimensional convex analysis to get an inequality which is dual to the well known Bellman inequality. The result is a linear programming problem that gives an estimate of the approximation error in the previous numerical approaches.
