    • INTRODUCTION/PURPOSE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate and analyze the research literature of Emergency Medical Vehicle Collisions (EMVC) during 1990-2005. The study has also a second purpose to investigate and analyze EMVC and injury registration of EMVC in Sweden during this period. CONCLUSIONS: EMVC has become serious injury phenomena in ambulance work. No complete national count of EMVC in the Nordic countries exists. Further studies in the Scandinavian are needed to explore and describe other factors as psychosocial support and crisis intervention contributing to ambulance vehicle occupant injuries, ambulance personnel and their families. However, the present study has several limitations; (1) the statistics of EMVC in Sweden and the statistical conditions in the Scandinavian is not collected by the hospitals, statistical government of the insurance organizations. Further studies are also needed to explore and describe the importance of injury prevention in the area of EMVC. For example could injury registration of EMVC in hospitals bring knowledge concerning the incidence of EMVC. The leadership of Ambulance in hospitals should also evaluate and develop the consequences of incidents when the ambulance driver and ambulance personnel had been driving unrestrained in traffic.

  • EMVCs: ambulance work and hospital social workers in Australia and Sweden
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: The Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine. - 0805-6129. ; 14:1, s. 9-20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reviews available research concerning emergency medical vehicle collisions (EMVCs) involving ambulances, especially as these concern ambulance staff and the professional role of hospital social workers in Australia and Sweden. Better understanding of EMVCs and health-related outcomes requires further research into the possibility of psychosocial support and the professional role of hospital social workers.

  • Hur rapporterar svenska massmedier skadehändelser i trafiken? En retrospektiv studie av tidningspress och dess bevakning av skadehändelser och prevention
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: The Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine. - 0805-6129. ; 11:4, s. 184-192
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: Mass media has a responsibility for injury prevention. One of the big public health problems is traffic injuries and therefore media has become an important part. CONCLUSIONS: If journalists in the press reported the most common injury events in traffic when the prevention should be better in the future. If record maintained from hospital has been used more, reporters could get a more "true" picture of the panorama of injury and the mechanism of injuries.

  • Media Coverage of mobility and injury events involving people with visual impairment in Sweden
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: The Scandinavian Journal of Trauma Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine. - 0805-6129. ; 15:4, s. 210-214
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE: This article presents the results of a survey (Study 1) carried out in the northern part of Sweden, into the self-experiences of accidents and risks in traffic amongst visually impaired people. The study also presents the results of a content analysis of the media coverage by the press (newspaper) and television broadcasting of this research (Study 2). Finally the article presents a study (Study 3) of the media coverage of visual impairment, mobility and safety in Sweden during 2005. MATERIAL AND METHOD: In study 1, a qualitative approach with interviews (detailed personal interviews) were conducted with youth and adults who are visually impaired in Umeå, Sweden (N=33). Studies of media coverage enabled study of the following variables: type of media, reporter’s sex, individuals involved (visually impaired versus non-visually impaired), scope of reporting and type of event (study 2). Finally, study 3 examined how newspapers, radio and television covered visually impaired during the period of January-December 2005. A total of 67 events published in newspapers and broadcast on radio and television during the period were studied. RESULTS: The studies presented in this article provided examples of difference models of communication of knowledge and experiences from visual impaired and demonstrated that the public can be educated by media coverage. The research findings highlight the need for further research in this area into communicating self-experiences of mobility and safety in the risk society.

  • Patienters och anhörigas upplevelser av kränkande kommunikation. En retrospektiv studie av patientanmälningar efter medierapportering av skadehändelser och trauma
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: The Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine. - 0805-6129. ; 12:3, s. 166-170
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: This article contains a presentation and analysis of a retrospective qualitative study, which examined patients and family members and theirs self-experiences of mass meda coverage of injury events. The two main questions concerned the media ethics and negative stress components of traumatic experiences for trauma victims and family members. Traumatic events as injury events in traffic harm the victims, witnesses and all those close to them in lin life. CONCLUSION: Complaints to the Swedish Press Council must as a rule be filed within three months of the original publication. Three months is a very short time after a traumatic events i.e. injury events in traffic. It is important that victims and family members received information about the opportunity to create a complaints to the Swedish Press Council. It is also important to prevent negative stress and create a motivating factor for patients and family members in their vulnerable situation than provide possible ways of giving up injury prevention and good ethics and communication in news media (media coverage). The results in relation to previous research about mass media coverage of injury event are discussed. Conclusions about negative stress and ethics when creating privacy at the accident scene are drawn in this article.
