  • The Evidence Theory Based Post-Processing of Colour Images
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - Vilnius : Institute of Mathematics and Cybernetics, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 15:3, s. 315-328
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of post-processing of a classified image is addressed from the point of view of the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence. Each neighbour of a pixel being analyzed is considered as an item of evidence supporting particular hypotheses regarding the class label of that pixel. The strength of support is defined as a function of the degree of uncertainty in class label of the neighbour, and the distance between the neighbour and the pixel being considered. A post-processing window defines the neighbours. Basic belief masses are obtained for each of the neighbours and aggregated according to the rule of orthogonal sum. The final label of the pixel is chosen according to the maximum of the belief function.

  • An Efficient Technique to Detect Visual Defects in Particleboards
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - Vilnius : Institute of Mathematics and Cybernetics, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 19:3, s. 363-376
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is concerned with the problem of image analysis based detection of local defects embedded in particleboard surfaces. Though simple, but efficient technique developed is based on the analysis of the discrete probability distribution of the image intensity values and the 2D discrete Walsh transform. Robust global features characterizing a surface texture are extracted and then analyzed by a pattern classifier. The classifier not only assigns the pattern into the quality or detective class, but also provides the certainty value attributed to the decision. A 100% correct classification accuracy was obtained when testing the technique proposed on a set of 200 images.

  • A Model for Multigranular Data and Its Integrity
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - : INST MATHEMATICS & INFORMATICS. - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 28:1, s. 45-78
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data involving spatial and/or temporal attributes are often represented at different levels of granularity in different source schemata. In this work, a model of such multigranular data is developed, which supports not only the usual order structure on granules, but also lattice-like join and disjointness operators for relating such granules in much more complex ways. In addition, a model for multigranular thematic attributes, to which aggregation operators are applied, is provided. Finally, the notion of a thematic multigranular comparison dependency, generalizing ordinary functional and order dependencies but specifically designed to model the kinds of functional and order dependencies which arise in the multigranular context, and in particular incorporating aggregation into the definition of the constraint, is developed.

  • An agent-based architecture for customer services management and product search
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 13:4, s. 441-454
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The amount of products and services available over the Internet increases significantly and it soon becomes beyond users ability to analyze and compare them. At the same time the number of potential customers available via the Internet also increases dramatically and starts to be beyond the service providers ability to perform efficient targeted marketing. A possible way for relaxing the above-mentioned limitations could be in usage of electronic assistants, both for customers and providers. Such assistants may serve as mediators for commercial Internet-based activity. Software agents could play role of such mediators representing customers and providers in the network. In this paper we present our experience and a solution to using agent technology in customer services management for mobile users. The solution is intended to increase granularity and personalization in targeted advertising while ensuring customer privacy. The proposed solution has been implemented in a prototype system for providing services for, users of mobile devices.

  • Quantified products : Case studies, features and their design implications
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - : IOS Press. - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 34:4, s. 825-845
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In many industrial sectors, the current digitalization trend resulted in new products and services that exploit the potential of built-in sensors, actuators, and control systems. The business models related to these products and services usually are data-driven and integrated into digital ecosystems. Quantified products (QP) are a new product category that exploits data of individual product instances and fleets of instances. A quantified product is a product whose instances collect data about themselves that can be measured or, by design, leave traces of data. The QP design has to consider what dependencies exist between the actual product, services related to the product, and the digital ecosystem of the services. By investigating three industrial case studies, the paper contributes to a better understanding of typical features of QP and the implications of these features for the design of products and services. For this purpose, we combine the analysis of features of QP potentially affecting design with an analysis of dependencies between features. The main contributions of the work are (1) three case studies describing QP design and development, (2) a set of recurring features of QPs derived from the cases, and (3) a feature model capturing design dependencies of these features.

  • A Serial-Parallel Panoramic Filter Bank as a Model of Frequency Decomposition of Complex Sounds in the Human Inner Ear
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Informatica (Vilnius). - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 0868-4952 .- 1822-8844. ; 22:2, s. 259-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider that the outer hair cells of the inner ear together with the local structuresof the basilar membrane, reticular lamina and tectorial membrane form the primary filters (PF) ofthe second order. Taking into account a delay in transmission of the excitation signal in the cochleaand the influence of the Reissner membrane, we design a signal filtering system consisting of thePF with the common PF of the neighboring channels. We assess the distribution of the centralfrequencies of the channels along the cochlea, optimal number of the PF constituting a channel, natural frequencies of the channels, damping factors and summation weights of the outputs of thePF. As an example, we present a filter bank comprising 20 Gaussian-type channels each consistingof five PF. The proposed filtering system can be useful for designing cochlear implants based onbiological principles of signal processing in the cochlea.

  • Reference Attributed Grammars
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Informatica. - 0868-4952. ; 24:3, s. 301-317
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An object-oriented extension to canonical attribute grammars is described, permitting attributes to be references to arbitrary nodes in the syntax tree, and attributes to be accessed via the reference attributes. Important practical problems such as name and type analysis for object-oriented languages can be expressed in a concise and modular manner in these grammars, and an optimal evaluation algorithm is available. An extensive example is given, capturing all the key constructs in object-oriented languages including block structure, classes, inheritance, qualified use, and assignment compatibility in the presence of subtyping. The formalism and algorithm have been implemented in APPLAB, an interactive language development tool.

  • Detection of Hearing Loss in Audiological Frequencies from Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Informatica. - 0868-4952. ; 21:2, s. 191-204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) have been analyzed for objective assessment of hearing function and monitoring of the influence of noise exposure and ototoxic drugs. This paper presents a novel application of the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) for detection and time-frequency mapping of TEOAEs. Since the HHT does not distinguish between signal and noise, it is combined with ensemble correlation in order to extract signal information in intervals with correlated activity. High resolution time-frequency mapping could predict 30 dB(HL), or higher hearing loss, at different audiological frequencies in 63-90% of the cases and normal hearing in 75-90% of the cases. The proposed method offers TEOAE time-frequency mapping by constraining the analysis to regions with high signal-to-noise ratios. The results suggest that the HI-IT is suitable for hearing loss detection at individual frequencies and characterization of the fine structures of TEOAEs.

  • The Hilbert-Huang transform for detection of otoacoustic emissions and time-frequency mapping
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Informatica. - 0868-4952. ; 17:1, s. 25-38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents an application of the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) and ensemble correlation for detection of the transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs), and high resolution time-frequency mapping. The HHT provides a powerful tool for nonlinear analysis of nonstationary signals such as TEOAEs. Since the HHT itself does not distinguish between signal and noise it was used with ensemble correlation to extract information about intervals with correlated activity. The combination of methods produced good results for both tasks TEOAE detection and time-frequency mapping. The resulting detection performance, using the mean hearing threshold as audiological separation criterion, was a specificity of 81% at a sensitivity of 90% to be compared to 65% with the traditional wave reproducibility detection criterion. High resolution time frequency mapping predicted in more than 70% of the cases hearing loss at a specific frequency in cases of ski-sloping audiograms. The present method does not require a priori information on the signal and may, with minor changes, be successfully applied to analysis of other types of repetitive signals such as evoked potentials.
