  • Cocreation as a Caring Phenomenon : Nurses' Experiences in Palliative Home Care
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - : Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 33:5, s. 273-284
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new concept in palliative care, cocreation, appears to be a part of caring in nursing but has not yet been explored as a caring phenomenon. The aim was to, from a caring science perspective, explore how cocreation can be experienced as a phenomenon by nurses working in palliative home care. A hermeneutical approach and thematic analysis were used. The material consisted of texts from in-depth interviews with 12 nurses in a home care context. Informed consent regarding study participation and the storage and handling of data for research purposes were sought from participants. One main theme and 4 subthemes emerged. Cocreation can be viewed as an essential part of caring and being involved in patients' health and holistic care is a profound endeavor. Further research should focus on illuminating cocreation from patients' perspectives.

  • Swedish nurses' experiences of caring for dying people : a holistic approach
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 23:4, s. 243-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most people need to be cared for at the end of their lives by professionals. This study aimed to elucidate the meaning of nurses' experiences of caring for dying persons at home and in a special unit in a hospital. Four registered nurses working in private homes and 4 registered nurses working in a specific unit in a hospital setting were interviewed. The study was planned and carried out with a phenomenological hermeneutic approach. A naive reading guided a structural analysis, which resulted in 3 main themes: meeting patients and family members as unique persons, learning in a challenging environment, and gaining personal strength. The interpreted comprehensive understanding conveyed a meaning that caring for families with a member awaiting the end of life created a situation where the presence of an inevitable death demanded nurses to create close relationships with each unique person involved.

  • Consolation management aesthetics within holistic nursing
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - : Wolters Kluwer. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 37:4, s. E53-E58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to elaborate on consolation management aesthetics in terms of literature, art, and music. This article will be centered on holistic nurses who come in daily contact with vulnerable patients in need of both medical treatment and consolation, as they continue their journey toward one or another outcome. Consolation management aesthetics enables the patients to shift their attention from something that appears intractable to something that motivates, bolsters existential resilience, and offers hope and optimism for the future. Holistic nursing aesthetics, involving psychological healing through literature, art, and music, can help anxious, troubled patients to once again find beauty and balance in their lives.

  • The perioperative dialogue : holistic nursing in practice
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 21:6, s. 292-298
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article is a synthesis of 2 qualitative studies focusing on patients', anesthetists', and operating-room nurses' experiences of the perioperative dialogue and employing grounded theory as the method of analysis. The aim of the synthesis was to achieve a new holistic understanding of health in the perioperative dialogue. The synthesis highlights the importance of being in communion in a continuous whole due to continuity of care for the creation of health in both patients and nurses.

  • The dialectical movement between deprivation and preservation of a person's life space : a question of older nursing home resident’s dignity
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - Philadelphia : Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 30:3, s. 139-147
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to answer the question "What do nursing home residents do themselves in order to maintain their dignity?" Twenty-eight residents, 8 men and 20 women, aged 62 to 103 years, from 6 different nursing homes in Scandinavia were interviewed. The results showed that the residents tried to expand their life space, both physical and ontological, in order to experience health and dignity.

  • Nurses' experiences of assisting by touch in older adult care
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Holistic Nursing Practice. - : Wolters Kluwer. - 0887-9311 .- 1550-5138. ; 00:00, s. 1-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to describe nurses' experiences of touch and especially touch when assisting older adult patients in hospital context. The interviewed nurses described 2 ways of assisting by touch: striving to be present and not being there. This study shows that touching and assisting by touch can constitute the core of the act of holistic caring in nursing, in which the most important content is a real encounter with the patient.

  • Morphological Investigation of Polydisperse Asymmetric Block Copolymer Systems of Poly(styrene) and Poly(methacrylic acid) in the Strong Segregation Regime
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Polymer Science. Part B, Polymer Physics. - : Wiley. - 0887-6266. ; 51:23, s. 1657-1671
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Samples of compositionally (highly) asymmetric diblock copolymers and, also, mixtures of diblock and triblock copolymers (the latter obtained as end-coupling products of two diblock molecules of the mixture), composed of (a) monodisperse majority block(s) of poly(styrene) (PS) and a polydisperse minority block of poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA), microphase separate into spherical PMAA microdomains, either in disordered liquid-like state or body-centered-cubic (BCC) arrangement, at various annealing temperatures T, in the strong segregation regime SSR. We found that (i) the microphase separated state is favored over an anticipated molecularly homogenous state, (ii) the spherical microdomain morphology (with BCC symmetry) is favored over an anticipated hexagonally packed cylindrical morphology, (iii) the extent of the dissolution of short PMAA blocks in the PS material can be quantified, (iv) the spherical microdomains are dilated, and (v) despite molecular-weight (and architectural) polydispersity, well-ordered BCC structures can be obtained.
