    • Since the start of the millennium, significant changes have been seen in Danish eldercare. Central is the political ambition of a paradigm shift from »help« to »help to self-self« in home care, which is envisioned to happen through reablement. Reablement refers to short-duration home-based training programmes through which applicants of publicly funded home care are sought re-enabled to manage practical housework and/or personal hygiene. This article is based on an empirical case and discusses the ethical dilemmas that arise in the practical encounter between health care professionals and older people, including professionals’ balancing of different care logics, the shift in responsibilities from welfare society to older people and their relatives, and the more general implications of changed conceptions of how ‘good eldercare’ is defined and practiced for the possibility of achieving a good late life in the modern welfare society

  • Sundhedsprofessionelles praktikker ved forebyggelse af multiresistente infektioner – et kritisk blik på nutiden med reflektioner over fremtiden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Klinisk Sygepleje. - : Scandinavian University Press / Universitetsforlaget AS. - 1903-2285 .- 0902-2767. ; 34:3, s. 190-202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has come to prominence as a priority for policy makers and healthcare professionals. There are many well-described guidelines on how healthcare professionals should handle AMR. However, professional practices are sometimes different from what the guidelines prescribe. Based on a non-scientific case, the article explores and discusses healthcare professionals’ practices in preventing multi-resistant infections. The article shows how the boundary between ‘dangerous’ and ‘harmless’ circumstances takes place, how the understanding of ‘dangerous’ is contextual, and how the transfer of responsibility shifts from healthcare professionals to relatives. In conclusion, the article reflects on possible future scenarios in relation to the management of AMR, and the article argues that healthcare professionals must take responsibility on behalf of patients and relatives.

    • Background: In qualitative research, the relation between the researcher and the informants requires reflection. This is particularly important where researchers and fields are closely linked, e.g. through professional education or work experience.Aim: To examine how qualitative nursing researchers reflect upon their membership in the groups or areas being studied. Methods: By employing content analysis, the article investigates how articles in the Nordic Journal for Nursing Research reflect upon researcher positioning. The sample includes 57 articles using qualitative research methods.Result: We find a lack of reflections regarding the researchers' position, but to the extent it is done, we often find variations of an ideal wherein educated nurses are seen as being in a privileged position to conduct qualitative research within the health care sector. We analyse this ideal in light of the emergence of nursing science as discipline, and in light of the “insider / outsider” debate in the social sciences. Conclusion: While this ideal contains valid aspects related to experience-based insights and practice related knowledge, it also contains a normative dimension where justifications of the researchers’ own positions are important.
