  • Common Fixed Points of Generalized Rational Type Cocyclic Mappings in Multiplicative Metric Spaces
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Discrete dynamics in nature and society. - : Hindawi Limited. - 1026-0226 .- 1607-887X. ; 2015
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to present fixed point result of mappings satisfying a generalized rational contractive condition in the setup of multiplicative metric spaces. As an application, we obtain a common fixed point of a pair of weakly compatible mappings. Some common fixed point results of pair of rational contractive types mappings involved in cocyclic representation of a nonempty subset of a multiplicative metric space are also obtained. Some examples are presented to support the results proved herein. Our results generalize and extend various results in the existing literature.

  • Whitening of background brain activity via parametric modeling
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Discrete dynamics in nature and society. - : Hindawi Limited. - 1026-0226 .- 1607-887X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several signal subspace techniques have been recently suggested for the extraction of the visual evoked potential signals from brain background colored noise. The majority of these techniques assume the background noise as white, and for colored noise, it is suggested to be whitened, without further elaboration on how this might be done. In this paper, we investigate the whitening capabilities of two parametric techniques: a direct one based on Levinson solution of Yule-Walker equations, called AR Yule-Walker, and an indirect one based on the least-squares solution of forward-backward linear prediction ( FBLP) equations, called AR-FBLP. The whitening effect of the two algorithms is investigated with real background electroencephalogram ( EEG) colored noise and compared in time and frequency domains.

  • Bertrand oligopoly revisited
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Discrete dynamics in nature and society. - 1026-0226 .- 1607-887X. ; 6:1, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reconsiders Bertrand duopoly and oligopoly in the spatial formulation due to Hotelling, 1929. The equilibrium configurations of price and location structure are considered, given elastic demand, and a full dynamics is formulated in order to check for stability of equilibrium and the possibilities of complex dynamics, such as occurs easily with Cournot oligopoly. The main discussion concerns Hotelling's original case of two sellers on a given interval, though results for different cases, such as three firms on a circle, and lattices in 2D are indicated.

  • Rational expectations and the Cournot-Theocharis problem
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Discrete dynamics in nature and society. - 1026-0226 .- 1607-887X. ; :32103, s. 11-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In dynamic models in economics, often “rational expectations” are assumed. These are meant to show that the agents can correctly foresee the result of their own and the other agents' actions. In this paper, it is shown that this cannot happen in a simple oligopoly model with a linear demand function and constant marginal costs. “Naive expectations,” that is, where each agent assumes the other agents to retain their previous period action, are shown to result in a 2-period cycle. However, adapting to the observed periodicity always doubles the actual resulting periodicity. In general, it is impossible for the agents to learn any periodicity except the trivial case of a fixed point. This makes the whole idea of “rational expectations” untenable in Cournot oligopoly models.
