    • The corrosion resistance of nickel coatings on a copper substrate, plated from low-temperature electrolytes based on acetates, tartrates, and isobutyrates, was studied by the methods of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization curves. The tests were performed in a 0.3% NaCl solution. The nickel coatings exhibit high chemical activity, dissolving in the NaCl solution. The electrochemical step is the limiting step of the corrosion process.

    • Electrochemical oxidation of N,N '-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3-propylenediamine leads to the formation of a conducting polymer on the electrode surface. The diffusion coeffi cient and activation barrier of the charge transfer in the bulk of the polymer in an electrolyte medium were determined. The Schiff base and its polymeric form in the oxidized and reduced states were characterized by IR, X-ray photoelectron, and electronic absorption spectroscopy. Reversible changes in the polymer structure, accompanying its electrochemical oxidation–reduction, are substantiated.

    • Scanning electron microscopy, potentiodynamic polarization method, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to study the corrosion behavior of AD31 (AA6063) aluminum alloy in acid (pH 3) 0.05 M NaCl solutions containing 3 mmol dm(-3) of NaVO3 inhibitor. It was found that the corrosion of AD31 alloy in acid sodium chloride solutions predominantly occurs locally at aluminum/intermetallic particle phase boundaries and is limited by the electrochemical stage of charge transfer. It was shown that introduction of sodium vanadate can reduce the rate of selective dissolution of magnesium from the alloy and provides a protective effect on the level of 7-10%.

    • Specific features of the process in which oxide nanopowders are formed in a hydrothermal treatment of coprecipitated magnesium and iron oxides were studied. It was shown that the rate at which oxide nanoparticles are formed increases when reagents structurally close to the final product are used. It was found that, with the hydrothermal treatment of coprecipitated magnesium and iron hydroxides at 450°C combined with the subsequent thermal treatment in air at temperatures of 400–600°C, it is possible to obtain a homogeneous mixture of nanocrystalline powders based on an iron-containing spinel phase and magnesium oxide.

    • Impedance spectroscopy, chronovoltammetry, chronopotentiometry, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic-force microscopy were used to examine the corrosion behavior in acid and alkaline media and the morphology of nickel coatings electrodeposited from acetate, tartrate, and isobutyrate electrolytes at a temperature of 20–25°C. Models describing the nickel corrosion processes in H2SO4 and NaOH solutions were suggested. It was found that nickel coatings formed from isobutyrate electrolytes have the highest corrosion resistance.

    • Quantum-chemical method of the density functional theory was employed to calculate, with the use of a B3LYP hybrid exchange-correlation functional, the IR absorption and Raman spectra of [Ru(bpy)(2)(CN)(2)] and [Ir(bpy)(2)(CN)(2)](+) complexes. All the normal vibrational frequencies were analyzed and new assignments of a number of bands in the IR absorption and Raman spectra were made. The role of vibrational motions of metal atoms and ligands in the vibronic deformation of electron shells in the course of electron transfer was discussed. This was done using data on surface-enhanced Raman spectra of [Fe(bpy)(2)(CN)(2)] and [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) complexes adsorbed on the surface of colloid silver.
