  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 27:3, s. 119-125
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Treatments involving chemotherapy require central venous access, such as a Peripherally Inserted Central (PICC) line. The aim of the study was to describe patients’ experiences of living with a PICC line during chemotherapy treatment. The study comprised interviews with 10 patients and was analyzed using manifest qualitative content analysis. The categories The importance of security, The importance of contentedness, and Feeling confident in using the PICC line were identified. To contribute to patient safety and empowerment in health care, nurses must be well trained in PICC line care. Therefore, evidence-based knowledge about central venous access is necessary for patients’ security and contentedness and to improve quality of care and increase patients’ well-being in central venous access care activities in the future. • 2018
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management and Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 30:4, s. 187-194
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Vietnam, HIV-positive population, as well as the stigmatization of this disease, is increasing, which affects patients and staff, thus requiring improvement. Nurses have a central role in adopting UNAIDS 90-90-90 vision regarding knowledge and treatment without risk. The aim of this study is to describe nursing students' experiences with HIV in Hanoi, Vietnam. Interviews with seven nursing students were performed. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The results formed one category, dare to care, and three subcategories: being careful, managing fear, and creating trust. This study highlighted the importance of awareness of values (visualize stigmatization) to develop guidelines (built on evidence-based knowledge) to transform knowledge (theoretical, practical) through nursing skills that are performed to manage fear and create trustful care for HIV-positive patients.

  • Health Care Assistants in Home Nursing: The Holy Grail or the Emperor’s New Clothes? A Qualitative Study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 28:1, s. 51-56
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • What are the experiences of home health care workers with regard to the delegation of nursing activities, the supervision of health care assistants (HCAs), and the impact of these changes on the work of home nurses (HNs). In-depth interviews were performed with 12 HNs, 12 HCAs, and eight managers in home nursing. HCAs take care of a less care dependent patient population, allowing the HNs to spend more time on more complex, technical nursing care. However, the analysis revealed some barriers, such as a knowledge gap and insecurity felt by HCAs leading to unnecessary patient visits by HNs, unfamiliarity of HNs with the role of delegating activities and supervising HCAs, and poor face-to-face communication between HNs and HCAs. © 2015, The Author(s) 2015.

  • Need for preparedness – nurses’ experiences of professional development in home health care
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 26:4, s. 223-229
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract Home health care faces challenges that could affect job satisfaction and quality of care. The aim of the study was to describe nurses’ experiences of competence in home health care. The study sample comprised of interviews with six nurses and was analyzed using manifest qualitative content analysis. The category “Being prepared” and subcategories “Importance of leadership strategies,” “Training promotes safety and independence,” and “Co-operation for professional development” were identified. Organizing and planning continuous learning activities at a managerial level, such as collaborations with a focus on supervision and sense of coherence (SOC) training, could develop patient safety within home health care. The results demonstrate that professionally competent nurses working in home health care environments contribute to safe working practices to meet quality care outcomes. Keywords competence, home health care, nurses, professional development, qualitative content analysis

  • Registered Nurses views of competences in home care
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 24:5, s. 221-227
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to describe the everyday work of registered nurses and their views on what skills they use, require, and wish to develop when caring for persons in the home care system. As regards method, the participants comprised 20 registered nurses. Individual interviews were subjected to content analysis. The results reveal that registered nurses are in effect guests in a person’s home. Registered nurses’ everyday work comprises advanced nursing care, making difficult decisions, and solving fundamental nursing problems. Registered nurses have a negative attitude to using evidence-based knowledge. The conclusions show that the demand for advanced nursing care competence has increased. As consultants, registered nurses need to delegate and teach the staff basic nursing care. They need to develop competencies in psychiatric and palliative nursing care and improve their handling of specific items of technical equipment.

  • Health Promotion Practices in Nursing for Elderly Persons in Municipal Home Care : An Integrative Literature Review
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - Thousand Oaks : Sage Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 32:1, s. 53-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elderly patients sometimes seek emergency services unnecessarily. Emergency clinics can be detrimental to the elderly. The purpose of this study was to find health promotion practices that enable a registered nurse in community health to reduce the need for home care clients to seek emergency care. The method of integrative literature review was used. Through health promotion work in the home, the registered nurses in community health (in conjunction with other professionals) can strengthen patients’ self-esteem and reduce their emergency care visits. Patient involvement is part of this work, and the registered nurses in community health needs to get to know patients to learn their health needs, design individual care plans, and find out whether they need education about their own health and/or health care services available to them. Registered nurses in community health experience difficulties in performing health promotion because they perceive that other tasks have higher priority. Copyright © 2019 by SAGE Publications

  • Cost and satisfaction trends in Swedish elderly home care
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : Sage Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 28:4, s. 250-255
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a widespread belief among the public and policy makers that quality of care in terms of user satisfaction can be improved with increased spending. However, recent research indicates that structural resources (e.g., budget per elderly) in elderly home care do not predict quality of care in terms of older persons’ satisfaction with care. In the present study, we analyzed the longitudinal trends in costs and perceived quality of care across 3 years using nationwide data in Swedish elderly home care. The results showed that although costs have been steadily increasing, perceived quality of interpersonal treatment in care has remained at the same level. An important implication is that future research and policy efforts to improve quality should more directly target the mechanisms generating satisfaction.

  • The Impact of Disasters and Major Incidents on Vulnerable Groups Risk and Medical Assessment of Swedish Patients With Advanced Care at Home
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 29:3, s. 183-190
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, we assessed the overall risks that influence advanced care at home (ACH) patients enrolled in 8 municipalities in the western region of Sweden. We also conducted a medical assessment of a limited number of ACH cases based on the registered information from the university hospital in Gothenburg, with regard to survival after a disaster. Two different questionnaires were distributed, and the results were collected separately and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results indicate that there is a low level of preparedness among the health care service providers for addressing the needs of ACH patients following a major incident or disaster. For this group, the impact of a disaster depends on their vulnerability, specific diagnosis, the medical support required, and the duration of the incident or disaster.

  • Dare to ask children as relatives! A qualitative study about female teenagers’ experiences of losing a parent to cancer.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Home Health Care Management & Practice. - : SAGE Publications. - 1084-8223 .- 1552-6739. ; 28:2, s. 94-100
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nurses must pay attention to teenager altered lives when a parent receives treatment for cancer. The aim of this study was to describe female teenagers’ experiences of losing a parent to cancer. Blogs written by girls (13-19 years) were utilized and analyzed from a qualitative perspective. Four categories were highlighted from the analysis: sadness, fear, anger, and comfort. Blogs served as a tool for gathering strength for teenagers in their difficult circumstances. The results show that female teenagers need information and support through their parent’s end-of-life care to be able to move on after the traumatic experience. Support needs to be in line with the children’s individual needs.
