  • Socio-demographic predictors of dyadic sexual communication among Iranian married women
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - : Elsevier. - 1158-1360 .- 1878-1829. ; 31:4, s. 311-317
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and aim: Couples’ communication concerning sexual issues is influenced by various individual and social factors. The present study investigated the socio-demographic predictors of dyadic sexual communication among married women of reproductive age. Methods: A cross-sectional survey study was conducted from May to October 2019 in comprehensive health centers of Qazvin City, Iran. The participants comprised 400 married women with mean age of 35.66 years recruited via a two-stage sampling method. The Dyadic Sexual Communication Scale (DSCS) and a socio-demographic questionnaire were used for data collection. Univariable and multivariable linear regression models with a significance level of 0.05 were used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean score of sexual communication was 59.19 out of 78 (SD = 12.63). Based on multivariable linear regression model, life satisfaction (β = 0.34 high vs. moderate), frequency of sexual intercourse (β = 0.20), moderate vs. poor economic status (β = 0.12), and using contraception (β = −0.09) were predictors of good dyadic sexual communication. These variables explained 32% of the variance concerning dyadic sexual communication among married women of reproductive age. Conclusion: Life satisfaction, frequency of sexual intercourse, moderate economic status, and using contraception were predictors of good dyadic sexual communication.

  • The impact of work-related stress on the sexual relation quality of the couple
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - 1158-1360. ; 17, Supplement 1:0
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study is part of a research project including stress, coping-strategies, mood, partnership relation quality, and illhealth. Earlier findings tentatively suggest the health-promoting advantages of positive partnership relations in counteracting the illhealth accruing from various types of general stress and the particular stresses of work occupation. In this study two hundred and twelve participants derived from several different occupations, responded to questionnaires based upon self-report instruments including the Subjective Stress Experience Questionnaire, the Stress and Energy Scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Job Stress Survey, Partnership Relations Quality Test, and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale. Gender differences were found in levels of sexual desire and intercourse satisfaction, together with sexual pleasure and more orgasms. The results also indicated that illhealth induced less frequency of caressing, fewer orgasms during intercourse, lower level of intercourse satisfaction and sexual pleasure). Negative affect induced lower levels of intercourse satisfaction and sexual desire. Work related stress induced a lower level of intercourse satisfaction and sexual desire. On the other hand good coping-strategies were related to higher frequency of caressing, intimate communication, intercourse frequency, sexual pleasure, and intercourse satisfaction. Positive affect induced higher level of intercourse satisfaction, sexual pleasure, sexual desire, more orgasms, and greater satisfaction with the sexual life. These results indicate that stress, illhealth, and negative affect impairs a flourishing love life and that coping-strategies and positive affect on the other hand are positive factors for obtaining such a love life.

  • Exposure to online sexual materials in adolescence and desensitization to sexual content : Exposition au matériel sexuel en ligne à l’adolescence et désensibilisation au contenu sexuel
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Sexologies: revue europeenne de sante sexuelle - european journal of sexual health. - : Elsevier BV. - 1158-1360. ; 27:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is well known that adolescents use the Internet for sexual purposes, for example viewing sexually explicit materials, a practice which increases with age. Prior research has suggested a link between cognitive and behavioral effects on the one hand and viewing sexually explicit materials on the Internet on the other. The present study aimed to explore exposure to sexually explicit materials on the Internet and a possible desensitizing effect on the perception of online sexual content over time. The study design was longitudinal; data were collected in 3 waves at 6 months intervals starting in 2012. The sample included 1134 respondents (girls, 58.8%; mean age, 13.84 ± 1.94 years) from 55 schools. A multivariate growth model was used for analyzing data. The results showed that the respondents changed their perception of sexually explicit material on the Internet over time depending on age, frequency of exposure and whether exposure was intentional. They became desensitized in terms of being less bothered by the sexual content. The results may indicate a normalization of sexually explicit material on the Internet during adolescence.

  • Des pionniers aux professionnnels : une étude qualitative sur les sexologues travaillant en Suéde
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - : Elsevier. - 1158-1360 .- 1878-1829. ; :24, s. 82-84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • From Pioneers to Professionals : A qualitative study of sexologists in Sweden
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - : Elsevier. - 1158-1360 .- 1878-1829. ; 24:2, s. E37-E40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article aims to describe sexologist as a profession. Data was collected through qualitative research interviews with 34 members of the Swedish Association for Sexology. By using a sociological perspective on the professionalization process, different groups have emerged in the sexological landscape: pioneers, competence sexologists, entrepreneurs, research sexologists and the non-professionals. The informants emphasize collaboration and respect between the different domains, with the exception of those who are not considered sufficiently competent. The criteria for who gets to use the title are ongoing, just as the process of sexologist as a profession. (C) 2014 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

  • Men's demand for prostitutes
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - : Elsevier SAS. - 1158-1360. ; 15:2, s. 87-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article the results of Swedish and other Scandinavian research about prostitutes' clients in heterosexual prostitution are presented and discussed. The aim is to explore men's motives for seeking out prostitutes. Five major motivational themes are presented: the whore fantasy, another kind of sex, image of the kind-hearted comforter, images of sex as a consumer product, fantasies of another kind of woman. It is the argument of the author that these themes reflect dominant structures of sexual culture and gender relations in society. Some of them seem to be relatively stable over time with roots far back in history, and others can be conceived as expressions of changing power relations between men and women in present day Western society.

  • The differentiation between consumers of hentai pornography and human pornography
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sexologies. - : Elsevier BV. - 1158-1360 .- 1878-1829. ; 31:3, s. 226-239
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study aimed to investigate if hentai consumers differed from other pornography consumers regarding their attachment style, attraction to, and desire for romantic relationships with anime characters and humans. Pornography consumers were categorized into three groups. The first group consumed both hentai and human pornography (hentai consumers), the second consumed human pornography but not hentai (non-hentai), and the third did not consume hentai or human pornography (non-porn). Two hundred and eight participants completed an online study that involved self-report surveys and an image rating task. The results revealed that hentai consumers did not differ from non-hentai or non-porn consumers on avoidant attachment. However, among females, hentai consumers were higher on anxious attachment compared to non-porn consumers. For the image rating task, hentai consumers rated anime characters more attractive than non-hentai and non-porn consumers. However, there were no group differences for the image ratings of real people. Hentai consumers indicated stronger romantic desire towards anime characters compared to non-hentai and non-porn consumers; there were no group differences in romantic desire for humans. The findings highlight the importance of differentiating individuals who consume hentai and those who do not.
