- In this paper we study homogenization of quasi-linear partial differential equations of the form -div (a (x, x/εh,Duh)) = fh on Ω with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Here the sequence (εh) tends to 0 as h→∞ and the map a (x, y, ξ) is periodic in y, monotone in ξ and satisfies suitable continuity conditions.W e prove that uh → u weakly in W1,p 0 (Ω) as h → ∞, where u is the solution of a homogenized problem of the form -div (b (x,Du)) = f on Ω. We also derive an explicit expression for the homogenized operator b and prove some corrector results, i.e. we find (Ph) such that Duh -Ph (Du) → 0 in Lp (Ω,Rn). () 0 in (Ω).

- This article proposes a theoretical framework intended to facilitate descriptions and discussions of texts of works in different media. The main theoretical traditions which have inspired this endeavor are, on the one hand, textual criticism (with scholars such as Fredson Bowers, D. C. Greetham, Jerome J. McGann, D. F. McKenzie, Peter L. Shillingsburg, and G. Thomas Tanselle), and, on the other hand, hypertext theory (represented by theorists like Espen Aarseth, Jay David Bolter, Jane Yellowlees Douglas, Michael Joyce, George P. Landow, and Janet H. Murray). The study aims to combine and develop the perspectives of such theoretical traditions in order to suggest a more consistent and extensive set of concepts for the analysis of how narratives are stored and disseminated. The study examines the structural aspects of texts and works, and deals with storage, presentation and reproduction of works. Moreover, the structure of works and texts, as well as the navigation related to these structures, are discussed. The study also includes an in-depth discussion on links and linking, and a new terminology is suggested for the subject. The most important concepts discussed are work, text, version, variant, storage medium, storage sign, presentation medium, presentation sign, storage capacity, life expectancy, direct text access, indirect text access, copy, edition, impression, issue, monosequential, multisequential, content space and axial structure. Furthermore, the concepts of network structure and lateral structure as well as hypertext, ergodicity, link and linking are examined.

- In recent years, the theme of artificial and/or mediated reality has been recurrent in popular cinema (The Matrix, The Truman Show, The Cell, etc.). This trend reflects a growing awareness of how information technologies obfuscate traditional boundaries of what is real and what is not. The article draws a cultural background to these films, and, by extension, to our so-called age of information by examining a number of older fictional works in which technologies of representation and simulation are explored in more or less dystopian terms. In a trajectory including otherwise unrelated works, such as J. K. Huysmans’ Against Nature and William Gibson’s Neuromancer, we find a number of familiar themes and images presented with a striking degree of continuity: the neglect of the body, the deterioration of social and familial bonds, the loss of history and literary culture, the retreat from reality into a world of engineered hallucinations.

- Windswept Hip Syndrome (WHS) is a triad of hip subluxation or dislocation, pelvic obliquity and scoliosis. In cerebral palsy it is one of the most difficult deformities to control and treat and it predispose to poor, unstable sitting. The aim of this study was to describe literature concerning factors which contribute to the development, prevention and management of WHS. Literature based on articles found in Medline, Arbline, Spriline and via references 1983-1999, were used. Several factors contributing to the development of WHS were identified. The dislocated hip was commonly located on the raised side of the pelvis and the convexity of the scoliosis was opposite the raised side of the pelvic obliquity. There were different opinions concerning the temporal relationship between the development of the deformities. Secondary complications to WHS were pain, loss of function, difficulties with hygiene and nursing care. Correct positioning, increased weight-bearing, muscle stretching, strengthening exercises and use of orthosis were considered useful maneuvers in preventing the deformities. Surgery for developed deformities included soft tissue surgery, osteotomy and arthrodesis. The impetus should be to prevent the development of WHS from occuring, in order to avoid serious complications on many levels.

- The purpose of this study was to describe how women with chronic heart failure (CHF) experience becoming ill, being ill and how they adjust to their new life situation. Qualitative interviews were carried out with 16 women with CHF (aged 4172 years). Interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis as a method. The content was sorted in three categories: To become ill, To be ill and To be a carrier of a chronic heart disease. To become ill was described by bodily discomfort, emotional experiences and contact with health care. To be ill was described through having troubles, to be in need of help and support, adaptation to the illness and to be scared. To be a carrier of a chronic heart disease was described by attitudes towards physical activity, attitudes towards cigarette smoking and a lifelong medication. These women describe their illness experience in various ways. Their descriptions confirm the earlier knowledge of consequences of CHF and also reveal new knowledge. This may increase our understanding of how it is to live with a chronic heart failure and this understanding can be used in planning the rehabilitation
