• Lärares lek och barns arbete: Litteracitetsaktiviteter i förskoleklassen
• 2018
• Ingår i: EDUCARE. - : Malmo University Library. - 1653-1868 .- 2004-5190. ; 2:4, s. 69-91
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The study stems from practice at the inter-section between subject-oriented activities and play of the preschool class. The specific interest is children’s early literacy development, grounded in two different views: the bottom-up or phonics perspective, which emphasizes reading and writing primarily as a skill; and the top-down or whole language perspective emphasizing the communicative function and meaning of written language. The aim is to explore how literacy activities are performed in a preschool class. Specifically, the focus is on how the teachers and the children interact in a literary activity, where an educational television program is used as part of the teaching tools. Theoretically, the study is underpinned by a sociocultural perspective on learning and the method consists of video documentation. The analysis focuses on how the interaction is framed by institutionally based perspectives on both learning and play. The results show that play is introduced in the activities but becomes transformed into an interaction pattern akin to schooling, in which the phonics tradition takes precedence. The teachers solve the dilemma between play and work by framing the activity in a playful way, inspired by the television program, while the children’s work develops into accomplishing a task.

• Internet Searches, Household Sentiment and Credit Spreads
• 2019
• Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• We use Google internet search volumes to measure households’ pessimism about overall market-wide credit health in the economy, and show that this “household default sentiment” is positively correlated with the credit default swap (CDS) spread level in the market. However, while household default sentiment might drive the cost of credit to some degree, either directly or indirectly through its effect on the stock market, we find the stock market’s opinion about the credit risk in the economy (default probabilities backed out from structural models) to be much more important in explaining credit spreads. The rather weak link between household sentiment and CDS spreads, meanwhile, is consistent with the almost complete absence of retail investors (households) in the institutional investor-dominated credit derivatives market. The results are essentially the same, whether we look at market-wide CDS indexes or single-name CDS contracts, and whether we exclude the financial crisis or not.

• Cinematic Ekphrasis and its Narrative Implications
• 2013
• Ingår i: Emerging Vectors of Narratology: Toward Consolidation or Diversification?,Paris, 29-30 mars 2013.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In recent years, the classical figure of ekphrasishas proved to be a very fruitful concept especially in the field of intermedialstudies. Theorists such as J. A. W. Heffernan, W. J. T. Mitchell, M. Kriegerand C. Clüver have contributed to the definition of ekphrasis, progressivelyenlarging its borders beyond the image-word relation. However, in Clüver’sdefinition of ekphrasis as the “verbalization of a real or fictitious textcomposed in a non-verbal sign system”, the focus remains on the verbal natureof the target medium. Following S. Bruhn, L. Sager Eidt and A. Pethö, we aim atquestioning this limitation by showing that the concept of ekphrasis iscritically viable even when the target is not verbal. Our examples will becases of cinematic ekphrasis, where energeiaand repurposing, two crucial aspectsof ekphrasis, both with narrative implications, are achieved by other meansthan only language. By doing this we join the post-classical narratologicaldiscourse and its increased interest in the question of narrative in non-verbalforms.

• The merits of ion cyclotron resonance heating schemes for sawtooth control in tokamak plasmas
• 2015
• Ingår i: Journal of Plasma Physics. - : Cambridge University Press. - 0022-3778 .- 1469-7807. ; 81:06
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• JET experiments have compared the efficacy of low-and high field side ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) as an actuator to deliberately minimise the sawtooth period. It is found that low-field side ICRH with low minority concentration is optimal for saw tooth control for two main reasons. Firstly, low-field side heating means that any toroidal phasing of the ICRH (-90 degrees, +90 degrees or dipole) has a destabilising effect on the sawteeth, meaning that dipole phasing can be employed, since tins is preferable due to less plasma wall interaction from Resonant Frequency (RI) sheaths. Secondly, the resonance position of the low field side ICRH does not have to be very accurately placed to achieve saw tooth control, relaxing the requirement for real-time control of the RF frequency. These empirical observations have been confirmed by hybrid kinetic-magnetohydrodynamic modelling, and suggest that the ICRH antenna design for ITER is well positioned to provide a control actuator capable of having a significant effect on the sawtooth behaviour.

• The physics of sawtooth stabilization
• 2007
• Ingår i: Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion. - 0741-3335 .- 1361-6587. ; 49:12B, s. B385-B394
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Long period sawteeth have been observed to result in low-beta triggering of neo-classical tearing modes, which can significantly degrade plasma confinement. Consequently, a detailed physical understanding of sawtooth behaviour is critical, especially for ITER where fusion-born a particles are likely to lead to very long sawtooth periods. Many techniques have been developed to control, and in particular to destabilize the sawteeth. The application of counter-current neutral beam injection (NBI) in JET has resulted in shorter sawtooth periods than in Ohmic plasmas. This result has been explained because, firstly, the counter-passing fast ions give a destabilizing contribution to the n=1 internal kink mode-which is accepted to be related to sawtooth oscillations-and secondly, the flow shear strongly influences the stabilizing trapped particles. A similar experimental result has been observed in counter-NBI heated plasmas in MAST. However, the strong toroidal flows in spherical tokamaks mean that the sawtooth behaviour is determined by the gyroscopic flow stabilization of the kink mode rather than kinetic effects. In NBI heated plasmas in smaller conventional aspect-ratio tokamaks, such as TEXTOR, the flow and kinetic effects compete to give different sawtooth behaviour. Other techniques applied to destabilize sawteeth are the application of electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) or ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH). In JET, it has been observed that localized ICRH is able to destabilize sawteeth which were otherwise stabilized by a co-existing population of energetic trapped ions in the core. This is explained through the dual role of the ICRH in reducing the critical magnetic shear required to trigger a sawtooth crash, and the increase in the local magnetic shear which results from driving current near the q=1 rational surface. Sawtooth control in ITER could be provided by a combination of ECCD and co-passing off-axis negative-NBI fast ions.

• Negotiating (with) Fire: Contemporary Fire Domestication in Swedish Sapmi
• 2021
• Ingår i: Journal of Ethnobiology. - : Society of Ethnobiology. - 0278-0771 .- 2162-4496. ; 41, s. 499-516
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• In Sweden, fire management is driven by nature conservation objectives through both regeneration burning, used as a soil preparation method in forestry, and conservation burning in protected forests, aiming to reintroduce fire as an ecological process necessary for the preservation of biodiversity. The burning strategy affects Indigenous Sami reindeer herders who use commercial and protected forestlands as pastures for their reindeer. Fire can have ambivalent effects on reindeer pasture depending on where it occurs. Yet, Sami herders are currently not included in the planning process of burning but for a consultation by forest owners occurring late in the process. In this article, we interpret fire management as a system of fire domestication, understood as continuous interactions between humans and fire. To describe the modalities of contemporary fire domestication, our study draws on semi-structured interviews carried out with Sami reindeer herders, forestry planners, conservation managers, and burning practitioners in different localities of the northernmost counties of Vasterbotten and Norrbotten. We show how the domestication of fire involves a dual negotiation process: a negotiation with fire during the burning process, and a negotiation about fire between Sami herders and forest managers. Burning practitioners conceive fire as an agent rather than a tool, able to produce unique effects in forests and increase their naturalness, which they must steer in order to reach desired ecological results. Through the negotiation of the use of fire, fire domestication stimulates new interactions between Sami herders and forest managers, and constitutes a possible common ground from which new forms of collaboration could emerge. Our study reaffirms the hybrid nature of fire, both natural and cultural, resulting from negotiations with and between the human actors of the domestication system.

• The global build-up to intrinsic edge localized mode bursts seen in divertor full flux loops in JET
• 2015
• Ingår i: Physics of Plasmas. - : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 1070-664X .- 1089-7674. ; 22:7
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• A global signature of the build-up to an intrinsic edge localized mode (ELM) is found in the temporal analytic phase of signals measured in full flux azimuthal loops in the divertor region of JET. Toroidally integrating, full flux loop signals provide a global measurement proportional to the voltage induced by changes in poloidal magnetic flux; they are electromagnetically induced by the dynamics of spatially integrated current density. We perform direct time-domain analysis of the high time-resolution full flux loop signals VLD2 and VLD3. We analyze plasmas where a steady H-mode is sustained over several seconds during which all the observed ELMs are intrinsic; there is no deliberate intent to pace the ELMing process by external means. ELM occurrence times are determined from the Be II emission at the divertor. We previously [ Chapman et al., Phys. Plasmas 21, 062302 (2014); Chapman et al., in 41st EPS Conference on Plasma Physics, Europhysics Conference Abstracts (European Physical Society, 2014), Vol. 38F, ISBN 2-914771-90-8] found that the occurrence times of intrinsic ELMs correlate with specific temporal analytic phases of the VLD2 and VLD3 signals. Here, we investigate how the VLD2 and VLD3 temporal analytic phases vary with time in advance of the ELM occurrence time. We identify a build-up to the ELM in which the VLD2 and VLD3 signals progressively align to the temporal analytic phase at which ELMs preferentially occur, on a similar to 2 - 5ms timescale. At the same time, the VLD2 and VLD3 signals become temporally phase synchronized with each other, consistent with the emergence of coherent global dynamics in the integrated current density. In a plasma that remains close to a global magnetic equilibrium, this can reflect bulk displacement or motion of the plasma. This build-up signature to an intrinsic ELM can be extracted from a time interval of data that does not extend beyond the ELM occurrence time, so that these full flux loop signals could assist in ELM prediction or mitigation.
