  • Laboratory Experiments on Soil Stabilization to Enhance Strength Parameters for Road Pavement
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Transport and Telecommunication. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 1407-6160 .- 1407-6179. ; 24:1, s. 73-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clay soils can cause significant distress in road construction due to their low strength. Stabilizing such soil improve with binder agents prior to the geotechnical works can significantly its performance and ensure safety and stability of roads while exploitation. This research envisaged the use of five different binders (lime, energy fly ash, bio fly ash, slag, cement) as an additive stabilizing agents to improve the strength parameters of soil as required in engineering industry standards. The variations of strength was assessed using measurements of P-wave velocity of the elastic waves propagating through soil specimens stabilized by different combination of binders. Measurements were performed on 28th day of soil treatment. The best effects of added binders were noted in the following combinations: cement / energy fly ash / bio fly ash (P-waves >3100 m/s), followed by combination lime / energy fly ash / GGBFS (P-waves >2800 m/s) and cement / lime / energy fly ash (P-waves >2700 m/s). Adding lime is effective due to its fixation and chemical bond with particles. The study contributes to the industrial tests on soil strength for constructing roadbed.

  • Users' perception and reported effects of long-term access to in-vehicle traffic information services mediated through nomadic devices: Results from a large-scale inter-european field operational test
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Transport and Telecommunication. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 1407-6160 .- 1407-6179. ; 16:3, s. 197-206
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ICT-mediated traffic information has been argued to contribute to a more sustainable transport system through affecting drivers. Nevertheless, long-term effects of travellers having access to nomadic in-vehicle systems for traveller information are not well known. This study presents the results from a multi-national large-scale field operational test (FOT). The results show that the users in general were positive to the tested systems and that there were several effects on their driving behaviour but in many cases the effects were limited. Moreover the effects varied between system types. Positive effects were related to comfort, as well as individual and system efficiency. One could also notice that perceived effects were not as high as the participants had expected, leading to some disappointment. Most of the times this was due to the tested systems functioning in a less than optimal way.

  • Travel behaviour of online shoppers in Sweden
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Transport & Telecommunication. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 1407-6160 .- 1407-6179. ; 16:1, s. 21-30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Online shopping opportunities are transforming travel behaviour for shopping and could potentially reduce the overall travel demand. Despite numerous studies on online shopping, only a few have taken an approach that includes trips for all travel purposes. Based on a web-survey, this paper provides results on travel behaviour for physical shopping for frequent, regular, and infrequent online shoppers in Sweden. The results indicate that frequent online shoppers make as many car trips (for both shopping and other errands) as others. Also, frequent online shoppers in total make as many trips to a physical store as infrequent online shoppers – although by more sustainable modes of transport – and that the time saved from online shopping is spent on both additional shopping trips and trips for other errands. The conclusion is that online shopping might facilitate changing travel behaviour but does not in itself represent a good stand-alone measure for reducing vehicle mileage.
